Story
On May 14th 2017 i'm going to be tackling Leeds Half Marathon. Considering the furthest I've ever run is 10km, this is going to be one hell of a challenge!
I've chosen to support and raise money for Leeds Mind, a charity which promotes positive mental health and wellbeing, and provides help and support to those who need it. As 1 in 4 people experience mental health difficulties at some point in their lives, charities like Leeds Mind are absolutely vital in helping people to tackle everyday hurdles. Many of those who I love and care about have experienced mental health difficulties, so this is a charity which is close to my heart.
It is important to reduce stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health. I tend to shy away from the topic of mental health, but I believe it is so important to be open and honest about your experiences. Over the past few years I have been affected by anxiety and intermittent depression, and although I am in a good place at the moment, my mental health experiences have been a big part of my adult life so far.
I know how difficult it can become to get out of bed in the morning and head into the big, wide world whilst carrying the weight of a mental health illness on your shoulder - and nobody should have to go through this alone. I have been very lucky to have a wonderful support network of friends and family around me, and I am extremely grateful for that. But I want those who are suffering with mental health illnesses to know that there is always someone around for them, and sometimes that is a mental health charity just like Leeds Mind (which is why I really want to fundraise for them)! And I'd like everyone to know that I'm here if you need someone to listen to your story, and to show you some support in your journey.
I'm hoping to raise £300 for Leeds Mind, and I am so so grateful for any donations you're able to give.
Thank you and see you at the finish line!
