Story
So excited to be running the Virgin Money London Marathon for the Mary Ann Evans Hospice on 26/04/2020.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This time last year the thought had not entered my head, let alone my feet taken their first stride. In the past I had watched this inspiring event from the couch in awe of such individuals and the charities they championed.
Roll back 12 months to the 22 August 2018 weighing in at 14 stones 8.5 pounds at Grendon Slimming World under the encouragement of Krystina Wright and the group. ( I had been at least a stone heavier earlier that year ).
As the pounds dropped off, my enthusiasm for exercise increased, regularly attending my pic n mix of pump, Aqua, yoga, clubbercise, Zumba, body blitz, tennis ...along the way C25k was mentioned. Run...I had never ran...I kept procrastinating ...Me? I can’t do this...but in November 2018 a friend ran with me for the first time and 2.3 k was reached and I loved it!
Since then, I have regularly attended Kingsbury Water Park, Park Run, a fantastic way to start the weekend...everything goes walk , run , dog walk etc.
Christmas Day all I wanted was to run 5 k with my 2 children and we did. In March I ran my first 10 k, getting that medal made me feel invincible.
Next what? Running shoes bought that day, the seed was sown...the London Marathon...I can do that I thought and raise money for a local charity whose work means a lot to me and that helps so many local people.
In the meantime I have been running 10ks and have my first half the day after I turn 55.
I have had such support along the way from friends, old and new. Fundraising events and projects are being planned so watch this space!
The last 12 months have been kind to me, but life isn’t always so positive. The Mary Ann Evans Hospice is a great local charity. They give vital help and support to patients and families in difficult times, providing much needed support when faced with life limiting illnesses to make everyday as good as it can be.
I would be really grateful if you could please contribute to this cause as it really does make a difference.
Many thanks,
Averil x
