Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Richard Percival was a friend of mine who sadly died of a stroke in 2013 at the age of 47 whilst training to do the Lands End to John O'Groats bike ride. In his memory, a group of his friends has set up a charity Percy's Pals (affiliated to Southampton Hospital) to raise money to purchase a portable CT scanner for the neorological unit in which Percy was treated. Obtaining timely scans is vital to ensure the best possible outcomes for brain injured patients and having a scanner which can be brought to the patient will greatly reduce time to scan and improve outcomes for future brain injured patients.
One of the main fund raising events involves a group of freinds cycling from Lands End to John O'Groates. Some will be cycling the whole distance, but I will be part of a 3 person relay team.
My leg is from Shrewsbury in Shropshire to Inverary in Argyll, 70 miles northeast of Glasgow, a total distance of 360 miles. With my work and other commitments, getting time to train properly has proved difficult, but at least I am now more familiar with the intricacies of saddles, padded shorts, chafing and lycra! As a novice cyclist who typically only rides a bike a couple of times a year, cycling such a distance in just 4 days will be a significant challenge to me. However, I very much believe this is a worthy cause and any donations would be hugely appreciated.
