Story
25.06.19 Walter Christopher Jackson was stillborn at 05.02 weighing 8lbs 3.5 Oz.
Walt joined an unacceptably high statistic that day and joined 13 other babies that died that day in England. Sands is a charity that provides so much for those families affected by the devastating loss of their child. They work to reduce the number of babies dying and to improve care and support for anyone affected by the death of a baby.
We were informed of a local Sands support group by our bereavement midwife and we finally took the step after 3 months to attend. There we were met with understanding, empathy, kindness and support. We all shared our tears, our children’s names, our birth stories, our situations and our feelings. No judgement, no details too much, no awkwardness when we mentioned our baby that had died. To have these things after suffering a stillbirth is something we feel so privileged to have had and anything we can do to ensure services like this can exist is something we will always strive to do.
We have been lucky enough to have gained friends for life through our Sands group and to have such a safe place to discuss the trauma experienced from the death of your baby is truly a blessing in an incomprehensible situation.
Our families are amazing and they are taking part in this walk with us. They know how much Sands means to us and they are joining us in raising this money and at the same time keeping Walt’s name alive.
June is a difficult month for us but at least this year we can do something positive in Walt’s name and enjoy the time on our walks to focus our thoughts on not only him but all the babies that have died far too soon.
Thank you for taking the time to read my just giving page and thank you for donating if you wish to do so - you really will be making a difference to someone’s journey following the loss of their child.
Walt 💙
