Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year, Luke and I ran our first race to raise money for Alzheimer's. We were able to raise a total of around £200 (or $300) and really enjoyed the experience.
I have continued to run and am now training for a half marathon that will take place in June. And this year I have increased my goal to £300 ($450).
In addition to running to stay fit, I am running this race to again raise money for the Alzheimer's Society to support the work they do to support those with Alzheimer's and their families and advance research to one day find a treatment and/or cure.
My Grammy has Alzheimer's and I do this for her. Her Alzheimer's set in around the same time that Luke and I moved to the UK. I don't get to see her very often any more, but when I do, it's hard. Outwardly she looks pretty much the same as she always has - except that she now has long, pink fingernails (there is someone that comes into her unit to do manicures). But it's hard to remember the last real conversation I had with Grammy. Today, conversations are more or less her stories about what she believes she did that day. Sometimes it's funny. Sometimes it's sad.
Fortunately, I have so many good memories of Grammy that they more than outweigh the tough and that is what I will always hold in my heart. And while I can't be with her now - fundraising is what I can do.
Thanks for reading my story. And thank you for your support as I prepare for and run this race.
