Story
You may or may not know that I suffer from Crohn's disease. It's a horrible illness that can leave me incapacitated, unable to maintain a healthy weight, unable to leave the house and in severe pain. There is a 1 in 3 chance that I will need surgery in the future to remove a section of my bowel. Currently my Crohn's is confined to my descending colon, other people aren't so 'lucky' and it can affect a sufferers entire digestive system from mouth to rectum.
The research being carried out by Professor John Herman-Taylor and his team at Kings College London is really exciting. They have been researching potential causes of Crohn's and believe that MAP, which causes Johnes disease in cattle, is passed to humans in the food chain. If a person is susceptible to this and unable to fight off MAP, due to other factors/'triggers' affecting the immune system, they can develop Crohn's Disease.
The vaccine for MAP is approaching the clinical trial stage, £470,000 needs to be raised for this.
Please consider donating to this cause, it has the potential to change so many lives and maybe, one day, my own!
