Story
Hello!!
Thank you for taking the time to read about my incredible little boy Asher
Firstly I would like to introduce Asher, he is a 28 month old boy, who was born with no complications or any additional needs some might say he was perfect but a cheeky little chap!!
On the 20th of July 2022 our lives changed dramatically, it was the first day of the summer holidays and lots of family time was planned with Asher and his 2 older brothers Lelan 10 and Chase 6. On this dreadful day Asher managed to get out into the garden where we had a large paddling pool, filled with water ready for the next day, Asher managed to get himself in to the pool and I’m sure you can picture what happened.
As you can imagine the shear panic upon finding Asher and in between administering CPR calling for a ambulance and making sure his other brothers were ok the rest is just a blur.
The emergency services were beyond amazing but unfortunately Asher was put into a drug induced coma and was air lifted to Bristol Childrens Hospital.
Asher was to stay in hospital for the next 7months starting off in PICU, when Asher was woken he was unable to breath for himself so had to stay on the ventilator. Asher had 2 failed attempts at extubating, at this point we were told that this was the end and told things no parent should have to hear!
Asher has a hypoxic head injury that has affected the movement part of the brain so Asher is no longer able to walk talk or eat, he also has a list of current problems which include severe dystonia which causes him the biggest issue.
Fast forward a week and that brought us to the day of the third and final try of extubation, as you can imagine this was a very difficult day, but our little fighter, our little solider did it! He started to breath for himself. A day later he was moved to HDU where he spent 3 days and his breathing and movements began to improve. Our last ward to visit was the rehab ward.
Since starting daily rehab in the hospital Asher has made amazing progress, but now 7 months on we are home full time and only receiving therapy once a week for 1 hour and this will only last for 6 weeks. So this brings me to why we need to raise money, I feel Asher needs more therapy than the NHS can provide to continue to improve and be the best he can be. Unfortunately I am not in the position to be able to fund this. I have found an amazing private physio that offers hippo therapy which would benefit Asher massively as it will help strengthen his core to which we hope will help him to sit un aided and then give him the ability to hopefully walk one day!
The money raised will ensure Asher can have x2 hippo therapy sessions a week for a whole year.
Asher is a true fighter and has a very strong personality which is both cheeky and determined.
