Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I want to help complete the 22 acre Manchester Peace Park in Kosovo to support ongoing recovery from ethnic cleansing and war.
The site is in Podujevë, a municipality of 125,000 people with
80% unemployment.
60% of housing stock destroyed in the war.
65% of the population under 25 years.
Survivors of massacres medically evacuated here are central to our planning group and see the Manchester Peace Park in Kosovo as a living symbol of the love and hope they received in the UK.
The Manchester Peace Park in Kosovo is now almost complete. Thanks to our MAK Runners pounding the streets of Manchester, raising over £18,000 in 5 years, running helped create:
· A Peace Garden planted with over a thousand trees and shrubs
· Sports and play facilities including an annual Peace Park Run for the community and elite athletes on site (4th year)
· Woodland trails with seating and bird-boxes made locally
· A trim trail for health and fitness
· Art and Music in the Park with local artists and musicians
· The MAK Summer Club which holds its 8th Summer School on site this summer.
· Partnerships with local schools, Handikos, young ecologists and a women’s group
· Five IT suites in schools. Ecology projects planned including a weather station.
