Story

Archie’s Story

Archie was a fun-loving and adventurous boy with lots of friends.  He embraced the outdoors and loved everything from swimming, camping, wildlife and generally having fun outside. He was always full of energy and inquisitive. Half way through Primary 1 he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, out of the blue, and died only ten weeks later.  We had hoped for many more family adventures with him.

The Plan

Inspired by adventurer Alastair Humphreys and his book on ‘Micro Adventures’, the families at West Linton Primary School are creating their own micro adventures to challenge themselves and celebrate being in nature.  The idea is that people will try something for the first time.  However big or small!  And, most importantly spend time with their families and make great memories.

The Charity

Calum’s Cabin is a small Scottish charity who offer holiday homes on the Isle of Bute for children suffering from cancer or a cancer related disease.  They gave us space to escape, be together and recharge in a beautiful setting where we will never forget paddle boarding with seals.  They also offer accommodation near the hospital for families who have to endure long stays for cancer treatment.  This charity was Calum’s idea, which shows what an amazing and courageous young boy he was.  You can read his story on Calum’s Cabin website.

Thanks

We would like to thank Alastair Humphreys for his inspiration and all of the wonderful families of West Linton who are going to take part in their own micro adventures, and of course, we would like to thank everyone who sponsors them, and this wonderful charity.
