The weekend just passed (24th & 25th June) saw the ALS Megahike team doing battle with the Pennine hills in an attempt to walk 50 miles in under 24 hours.
The days prior to the walk and for the first 2 hours of the walk we have experienced some very heavy rainfall, which resulted in the ground under foot being not only very wet but also extremely treacherous. This added to the already monumental task ahead but the rain didn't dampen the teams spirits one iota.
At 0300 BST the team were up after a mere 2 1/2 hours sleep and went through the final preparations. Team briefing at 0400 and at 0444 we were off.
Unfortunately both Kris and Nick had to retire early (27 miles and 35 miles respectively) due to some VERY severe blisters so the remainder had to join up with another team, for safety reasons as directed by the organisers, in order to complete the hike.
After a total of 18 hours and 28 minutes team ALS came across the finish line in joint 3rd position (due to having to walk in with our surrogate team) out of a total of 48 teams.
I would therefore like to thank EVERY single person who made this awesome achievement possible and thank everyone who has sponsored us.
For those of you who didn't manage to sponsor us in time, don't worry the just giving site is going to remain active for another 4 weeks so you can still help out and commend a fantastic achievement all in the name of charity.
