Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Jean Daly and I am the 2013 Antrim Rose of Tralee. I am the very first 'Rose' to have a physical disability and the very reason I put myself forward for the Antrim Rose was to 'break down' perceptions or even challenge attitudes about disability.
The Cedar Foundation is an organisation that provides a number of vital service to enable people with disabilities throughout Northern Ireland. Cedar prides itself on providing exceptional services that support children and adults with disabilities to participant in all aspects of the community. I am delighted to have selected the Cedar Foundation as my charity for the year because I believe their work is so important for disabled people to engage in their community.
My first project is the Breakdown Barriers Project. I am inviting primary school students to draw a picture, write a poem or a short story on the theme 'Breakdown barriers: celebrate ability' illustrating a society they would like to see in the future- a society without barriers and includes everyone. All pieces of work will subsequently be on exhibition in ASDA over the International Day for Persons with Disabilities on the 3rd of December. For more information please go to www.cedar-foundation.org/barriers.
The second very important project is the event in the Cedar Foundation on the 3rd of December. The International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPwD) on the 3rd of December is a United Nations ‘sanctioned’ day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disabilities and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being. The day in the Cedar Foundation will celebrate the ability of disabled people and the good work Cedar does in the community with employers, organisations and promient people in the community.
My final event is a Gala Ball for the Cedar Foundation on the 8th of February. This Charity Gala Ball is a special event to raise vital money for the Cedar Foundation. The Ramada Plaza, Shaws Bridge, Belfast will host our Gala Ball on Saturday the 8th of February 2014.Tables will be of ten people for £500 or individual tickets for £50. So please dig deep, tell your family, friends, and neighbours to get a table (or ticket) for a memorable night of dinner, entertainment and dancing! Entertainment from an amazing band called 'Addiction' and brilliant raffle prizes on the night. To book tickets go to www.cedar-foundation.org/galaball/
