Story
I am a trustee for Mums In Need. I want to raise money for this very good cause by means of the generosity of those that know me. But I will also use it to achieve some goals that aren't necesarily easy for a man of my, ahem, advanced years.
UPDATE!
Due to injury (sprained knee / hamstring tear) I have had to mostly stick to cycling and will be off football until prob 3rd week of June.
So, new (cycling) goals:
* Ride 1,000km by Oct / Nov
* Ascend 15,000m by the same time.
My 2023 goals (which may not happen for the above reasons) include:
* Play football for at least 4,046 minutes (That's 2023 x 2 and equates to around 80 hour-long sessions in a year.
* Increase my recorded max speed during games to 23kmh on a regular basis (see how I got '23' in there? Currently I *sometimes* achieve 21kmh so it will take some training).
All this is potentially quite a feat because I'm ancient and slow, but I will work hard and smart to achieve this and present achievements via Strava (https://www.strava.com/athletes/17270950).
Mums In Need is a cause close to my heart. My wife escaped just such an abusive relationship and I've seen her build this superb charity, which fills an otherwise unfulfilled need and hopefully will help drive out this type of bullying behaviour from society.
Mums In Need is a unique support service for mothers that suffer coercive control after separation from an abusive partner. Coercive control describes a pattern of abuse which can include physical abuse, manipulation, intimidation and threatening behaviour used to terrorise the victim. Many organisations help support escape from domestic abuse, but escape is not the end of the story. An escalation in relentless emotional and psychological abuse is common after separation and is often sustained through shared care with children. We are here to support these mums. We provide each mum with a package of support and a dedicated caseworker who keeps in regular contact and gives them access to practical support such as legal support, 1:1 counselling, wellbeing and therapeutic sessions, and peer sessions. Your donations will really make a difference to the lives of the families that we support. Thank you.
