Story
Over the next two weeks I will be fundraising for WEN and sharing information on their work and how it relates to cancer prevention! I am focusing on cancer prevention to honour a friend who has been battling cancer, and to celebrate the end of her treatment! I decided to address cancer prevention from an environmental perspective, as this is crucial to understanding the causes of cancer but is often left out of public discourse. Environmental causes such as air pollution or chemical exposure are estimated to be behind over a quarter of a million cancer deaths in Europe every year (EU Beating Cancer Plan). It is therefore important to promote the understanding that Human health and the health of the environment are inextricably linked!
WEN is fighting many of the environmental issues affecting our health through collaborative partnerships with organisations, academics and policy makers to launch projects and campaigns that make a real difference. Importantly, their work is also centred around gender and social inequality, and aims to tackle environmental injustice.
