Story
Giving support to people with cancer and importantly also to friends and families of those with cancer is something I feel strongly about. A place to go and meet people who understand your worries and concerns, somewhere you can ask questions and somewhere to get therapy or just a cup of tea is really essential. To combine this with the iconic buildings of Maggie's Centres is something that just gels with me.
I come from Dundee - where you can see the Maggie's Centre at Ninewells Hospital designed by Frank Gehry clearly up on the hill when approaching Dundee and I wondered what it was when I first saw it. This cause also grabbed my attention because I came across Charles Jencks and his wife Maggie Keswick a long time ago when I worked in a bookshop in Kensington (when I was very young!) Charles Jencks was in and out of the bookshop a lot - being an architectural historian and an editor of an architectural journal and I remember books on Maggie Keswick's landscape designs. As many of you know I am really interested in architecture and landscapes and just love the Open House days in London where buildings are open to the public, so to combine walking and visiting inspiring buildings with raising money for such a good charity was a no-brainer for me.
