Story
All of us know someone who’s been touched by cancer and we have no doubt also been asked to donate to one of the many charities that support work to find cures or help sufferers and their families.
Even if you have donation fatigue please read on. Together with some friends I have decided to raise money for the https://www.willberrywonderpony.org/ charity.
This charity was started when 17-year-old Hannah Francis was diagnosed with an aggressive bone cancer called Osteosarcoma in her pelvis, right hip joint, lower spine and lungs on May 1 2015.
She had some amazing experiences that spurred her on throughout treatment and as she said when she rode a horse it ‘made her feel normal again’. While #kickingcancersbutt, she set up the charity ‘Willberry Wonder Pony’ to provide truly memorable equine experiences for other seriously ill people and also to fund research into osteosarcoma. When Hannah passed away on 1st August last year, the charity continued and has grown in profile and funding.
As you know I’m mad about horses and I have been touched by their work so together we are going to ride the 50 mile ridgeway from Streatley nr Reading to Overton nr Marlborough in 2.5 days over the May bank holiday w/e.
We are all riding our shoeless horses, which have all been rehabilitated from a range of injuries including navicular bone, deep flexor tendon and collateral ligament damage.. All our horses are fighters and with us want to make a positive contribution to the work of Hannah’s charity.
