Story
On September 18th, 2011 I will be participating in the Great North Run and running my first ever half marathon. For me this will be a challenge where my physical and mental strength will be put to the test. My inspiration for doing this is my late beloved father, Bob McNamara who sadly passed away November 1st, 2007 of Oesophageal Cancer. My dad was a true fighter who put up a battle to the very end. He was always my pillar of strength who could fix anything and knew something about everything, so when he was diagnosed with this cancer in January 2007, I knew that I needed to be strong for him. With the support of my sisters we all rallied around and made sure he had all the love and support he needed to get through this most difficult time.
I chose Marie Curie Cancer Care as my charity as I know how important it is for families affected with cancer to have a support network they can reach out to in times of need. If challenging myself with the half marathon can help through donations from my friends, colleagues and family to support this worthy charity, then all the hours pounding the pavements training is more than worth it. I'm doing this for dad, in his memory and for those families who are now going through a similar experience where Marie Curie will be of great comfort to them.
Thanks again for donating through JustGiving. I'm assured your details are safe with them – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
Today, Father's Day June 19th 2011, I am publishing this page, 13 weeks to race day and 13 weeks to raise my minimum sponsorship and with your help, hopefully surpass it. So thanks again for all your support and donations.
