Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am doing the Great North Run on 19th September in memory of my Mum, Mary Ward and I am raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

My mum, was living with lung cancer for the last 7 years. If you knew her, then you know that she was tiny in height and stature but she was a fighter and had a huge heart. She never asked for anything, and if you asked her how she was she always said she was ok, she never wanted to be a bother to anyone.

When she found out that the hospital couldn't do anything else to help her with her fight, she was brave and strong. The one thing she asked my Dad was that he didn't let her die in hospital, she was terrified of being alone there and not being with her family in those last few weeks or days.

With the help of Macmillan cancer support we were able to understand what might happen at the end, to be with her and to care for her around the clock. Without their help we would have been lost, we wouldn't have had the equipment or the strength to give her the care she needed. My family and I will be forever thankful to them for letting us make my Mum's last days happy and loving ones.

I already had my place in the Great North Run, but after my Mum passed away Macmillan was the obvious charity for me. I have been training hard and am really looking forward to the run. I will be proud to wear my green vest on 19th September.

Your money can make a real difference, 99% of Macmillan services are funded entirely through the generosity of its supporters.

£10 can pay for 20 copies of The Cancer Guide (a booklet to help cancer patients and their families)

£68 can run a small Macmillan and Information and Support Centre for an hour.

£156 can run the Cancerline for an hour, on average helping 13 people affected by cancer with essential information and support.

£918 could fund a Macmillan nurse for a working week.

These are just a few examples, my target is to raise £300, please dig deep, anything you can donate would be much appreciated.

Thanks for looking at my page.
