Every year thousands of children stay in specialist paediatric hospitals throughout the UK.
These are often far from home and in expensive cities, where finding accommodation long term, or at short notice, can be prohibitively expensive for the families of these children.
RMHC keeps families together by providing free accommodation close to these hospitals.
Every year RMHC supports more than 6,000 families. In 2017 alone, RMHC saved 375,000 miles of travel for families who would otherwise have had to commute to be with their sick child. That's the equivalent of travelling around the earth 15 times.
Since 1989, RMHC have supported over 50,000 families globally, providing them with a 'home away from home', for as long as they need.
RMHC is very close to my heart, as 18 years ago, my family was one of these. I'm sure my parents can say better than I can how invaluable the support they received from RMHC was, but from my perspective, RMHC means no child has to be alone in hospital because their family couldn't afford to stay.
It costs £25 a night to house a family, and the average length of stay is 15 nights, with some families staying up to 596 nights. and so on August 21st, myself and Megan Gowland will be commencing a ~90mile hike around Dartmoor National Park, sleeping each night (without tents) where we finish walking each day, to raise awareness of this amazing charity, and to raise money so they can continue to support families when they need it most.
Megan and I are grateful for any support you can give us, whether that is a like, a share, a penny or a pound. Thank you.
