Hi!
As most of you have already heard, I am about to embark on a new adventure to Guatemala with a Christian charity called Latin Link to work in a girls home for an initial period of one year. With this new venture I'm hoping to use my teaching skills, among other things, in an organisation where there is great need.
I'll be working with an organisation called Kids Alive in a girls home in San Lucas, just outside Guatemala city.
My work will involve working in the school from Monday to Friday, teaching English and other subjects needed. I'll also be involved in one of the social programmes - mentoring and preparing older teenage girls to gain independence outside the home.
There is evidently a financial need and if you feel you could contribute in anyway..however small....would be awsome! Half of what I need has already been financed, however as I am away for almost a year, living costs will add up. The money will go towards the basic costs of living in Guatemala which include accomodation (with a Guatemalan family), food and transport.
I'm so excited about this opportunity and will keep you all updated on my progress out there. Thank you for participating in this with me!

Hola! Mucha gente ya sabe que me marcho de Barcelona para hacer un trabajo voluntario en Guatemala durante un año. Viviré en San Lucas, un pueblo que tiene aproximadamente 18000 habitantes, situado a veinte minutos de la ciudad de Guatemala y a más de 2000 metros de altitud. Trabajare con Kids Alive en un hogar para niñas que vienen de situaciones de abuso y abandono. Estas niñas vienen de distintas partes de Guatemala para tener una mejor vida en el hogar. Las niñas están distribuidas en pequeñas casas donde viven máximos diez de ellas junto con sus mentores. Por un lado, el proyecto consistirá en trabajar en la escuela, que ya está establecida, dando clases de Ingles y otras asignaturas. El otro proyecto es mas social; trabajando en un programa con chicas adolescentes que tienen entre 18 – 21 años para prepararlas para la vida fuera del hogar. Obviamente existe una necesidad financiera y si podéis dar algo…ni importa la cuantidad… ¡sería genial! Hacer una donación a través de JustGiving es sencillo, rápido, y completamente seguro.
