Please help me raise money into research on childhood brain tumours.
In 2007, my beautful daughter Iona, then aged 5, was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She underwent ten hours of brain surgery which left her without any pituitory function and some brain damage. In 2008, sadly, the tumour grew back and in 2009 Iona endured a 6-week course of daily radiotherapy. She lost large patches of hair and had extreme tiredness. Long-term damage from her treatment is very likely.
When she is well, Iona is full of life and energy with a terrific positive outlook on life. Despite her difficulties and having to take numerous daily medications, she very rarely complains and is a real joy to be around. Iona would love to run the London Marathon but she is too young so I am running it instead. I hope to help Brain Tumour UK's Marathon team reach their target of £50,000 which will help fund research into childhood brain tumours.
Brain Tumour UK is a fantastic charity which has helped support my family and I and has helped me start a West Midlands brain tumour support group.
I was asked about the challenge of training for and running a Marathon and whilst the prospect for a 46-year old, slightly overweight Mum of two girls juggling a job and hectic homelife is rather daunting, it dosn't even begin to equate to the challenges of those affected by brain tumours. I am so grateful that I have been given the good grace of my health and fitness to be able to train.
I am proud to say that I completed the 2010 London Marathon but my experience of doing my first Marathon has not put me off but inspired me to keep running and continue to raise money for Brain Tumour UK so London Marathon 2011 here I come!! AND THANK YOU TO ALL OF MY FANTASTIC SPONSORS.
Also on Sunday 26 September 2010, I am organising a Run 4 Brain Tumour UK....a 4k run...ten laps of tudor grange running track in Solihull....this will be a family event where you can walk, jog or run....music, fun characters and raffle.
So please help us research a happy future for children affected by brain tumours. Thank you.
