Story

I was never much of a runner in my younger years and the thought of running a marathon had never entered my mind.

That changed when my beautiful daughter Elsie passed away ten years ago due to incurable brain cancer aged just six years old.

Now I’m about to embark on marathon number five in the wonderful and windy city of Chicago on Sunday, 9th October 2022.

I’m running this year for the amazing charity Abbie’s Army and to remember sweet Elsie who should have been in her final year of school and getting ready to complete her A levels.

I do wonder what subjects she would have chosen and what she would be getting ready to do next?  Travelling around the world, applying for Uni, or something completely different.. :-)

Meanwhile, I’m hoping the infamous winds of Chicago will be blowing in the right direction to sweep me off my feet and in the direction of the finish line!

Abbie's Army does transformational work to raise awareness and vital research funds to find a cure for DIPG brain tumours - the tumour that Elsie was diagnosed with.  This tumour only affects children, is terminal on diagnosis with children given 9-12 months to live.  Let's help to change this.

Your donations to Abbie's Army will go towards supporting two CAR T-cell therapy trials for 24 patients which are due to start in early 2023 working with UCL researchers and GOSH.
