Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After a rough 478 days of fighting Papillary Thyroid cancer, I am trying slowly to get my energy levels back and start getting my running legs back. Supporting this charity means a lot to help me have some closure.
This is my story of my fight against Papillary thyroid Cancer and why this race will mean the start of some sort of normal life for me. The Lord has definitely blessed me everyday and through his strength I will be helping others.
On the 2nd of January 2021 I found a lump on my Thyroid.
It's only by the grace of God that I caught the lump early and have been able to recover as well as I have. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me - Philippians 3 vs 13.
I saw a specialist and it was found that it is Papillary Thyroid Cancer with a mutation that made it more aggressive. I had the operation to remove the whole thyroid and lymph nodes that were surrounding my thyroid. The operation lasted six hours and they removed my entire thyroid (the tumour was 5.7cm by 4.3 cm) and 23 lymph nodes of which 13 were cancerous.
I had a set back a week after surgery when a pulmonary embolisms went through my left lung. I had a week stay in hospital to assist with the recovery and dissolving the clots in my left lung.
I had radioactive iodine therapy on the 1st June 2021, which had a few side effects, some of which are longer lasting side effects. I have recently developed allergic reactions (swollen face, eyes and mouth) from items I have had before with no reaction. My body has changed after the treatment and my doctor's are working hard to find out the new allergies and help me to get back to the dentist to aid in the recover of constant toothache. I am officially allergic to lidocaine and have an alternative to try at the dentist from May 2022.
I went for a scan of my neck in December 2021 and all looked good, one more step closer to remission. In February 2022 I had two injections(Monday and Tuesday) that over stimulate any thyroid cells left and then had blood tests on the Friday. I had quiet a few side effects once again, nausea, vomiting and fatigue. Then I needed to wait for 6 week in order to receive the results from the oncologist.
I saw the oncologist on the 25th of April 2022 and got the best news I could have wanted, I AM IN REMISSION. The Lord has defiantly answered all my prayers and prayers said for me. I will need check ups every 6 months with blood tests regularly for the next 10 years, but that is a small price to pay in the bigger picture of things. I am now steadily recovering with the help and support from God, physiotherapist, doctors, Personal Trainer, friends and family.
My body is still recovering daily from the fatigue and constant toothache. I am definitely getting stronger each day, which is why I will be taking on this challenge.
This will be my first ever Marathon, the only goal I have is to finish the race!
