Story
Anyone who’s been close to me throughout any stages of my life will tell a story about me that involves running, at school, on holiday or them waking up in my house and realising that I am nowhere to be found and later finding out that I hadn’t just popped out for milk.
Running the London Marathon has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I first applied 10 years ago in the hope that I would tick the the marathon box before the grand old age of 30. Unfortunately I didn’t pass the ballot. I applied again a few years later and once again I did not get a place.
In the years that followed my usually perfect health took a turn. I got to a place where I thought doing the marathon would be something I may no longer be able to achieve.
In 2018 things slowly started to improve. However, I felt a long way from who I used to be in strength, fitness and motivation. Then this year the buzz around the marathon began. I thought it was just the challenge I needed to motivate me into rebuilding myself. I applied and here I am - third time lucky.
I have never entertained the thought of running directly for charity due to the high target funds you are expected to raise. And did not want the pressure of asking people for money. However, after much thought I have decided that it would be a shame to do something so challenging and for no one to benefit from it.
I have therefore decided to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. Due to my job, I see firsthand the devastating effects this cruel disease has on the individual, family and friends.
Sponsor me, motivate me and every advice from past runners has so far been very well received.
Let’s go!
