We provide male mentors for fatherless boys to help guide them to adulthood

Story

So some of you will already know my story. For those of you that don’t here is a very quick summary. In October of 2012...within 9 days of my sons 3rd birthday, my husband took his own life.  I was left widowed at the age of 36 with 3 children aged 11, 7 and just 3. The last child being my son.

A few years ago Chapter 2 was set up and I was offered the opportunity for my son to have a male mentor.  Having a willing man   simply wanting to hang out with my boy, to be a friend to him, to spend some one on one time with him has meant so much to me. The fact that someone cared enough to want to invest in a relationship with my son knowing that he did not have a Father, for me was just heart warming to say the least (quite honestly I cried!). I can hand on my heart, say that my son enjoys each visit that he spends with his mentor. They literally just hang out together for a couple of hours a week, play basketball, or go for a walk, pre covid would be going to a cafe for a drink and a cake, the latest new activity he being taught how to chop wood for our log burner, a very useful skill I’d say! There’s no rocket science really it’s simply someone taking a vested genuine interest in him.

I would love for other boys to be able to have the opportunity to benefit from this charity. There are so many young lads that live in very difficult circumstances through no fault of their own. To have a male mentor to draw alongside them, to build a relationship with them and take a genuine interest in them, I believe this can have a profound effect on their outlook on life and on the beliefs and values they may hold about themselves. We all need positive role models in our lives and Farherless boys are missing out on a positive male figure especially if they are not receiving this in their wider family either.

I am grateful to Chapter 2 and hope that you will support this cause. Of course I should also add that I am also doing this in remembrance of my late husband...what better way to show that than by shaving my hair off (in case you didn’t know he used to shave his, with a razor cos he was balding!!) I’m not going that far tho 🤪buzz cut yes. Razor...nah!

So when and where will this Buzz cut take place I hear you ask!!  I’m planning on doing this on Father’s Day, so on the 20th June.  Now when I say I...actually it’s a sweet opportunity for my son 👦🏻🙄to pay me back for the lockdown haircuts I’ve inflicted on him (in my defence my hair cutting skills have improved!) Oh and this momentous moment will possibly be live...on stage at my church (hopefully Covid will not prevent this) 😫😜 Please if you are able to back this cause and make a donation I would really appreciate your support.. Thank you in advance.

Chapter2 works with boys who are growing up with no father and no positive male influence. We provide them with a dedicated male mentor and male community to help guide them to adulthood. Our aim is to write hope into a story which might otherwise be profoundly sad.
