I have had a secret ambition to run a marathon before I am 50 for a few years now - and time is running out! When I finally took the plunge and signed up in May 2015, it sadly coincided with a tragic time, when my dear friend Louise was spending precious final weeks with her husband Mike in the Marie Curie hospice in north London. I asked  them to choose a charity for me to run for, and without hesitation they chose Marie Curie. They were incredibly respectful of and grateful for the amazing care given to Mike in those last weeks.

I had to defer my marathon entry to this year, as a virus wiped out the training last year, but all being well, I'll be on the start line on April 9th. Mike was famously fit and energetic, undertaking cycling and climbing feats even near the end of his cancer treatment. If I can harness a fraction of his strength and stamina from wherever he is in the universe, then surely I can cross that finish line.
