Story
Aneurin was born silently into the world on 31st July 2015 at 1.03pm weighing 5lb 11oz. He had spiky dark hair, perfectly round ears and the softest skin I've ever touched. He had my big feet and his daddy's nose. We spent 8 wonderful hours with him, pouring as much love into him as we possibly could.
8 hours will never, ever be enough time but that time was possible in part thanks to Sands. Sands provided the Snowdrop Room in which he was born, the cold cot that allowed us more time to memorise his face and tell him how loved he was and the memory box we left the hospital with.
Although Aneurin's death was a result of health complications related to Downs syndrome and couldn't have been prevented, many other baby deaths could be. Sand's research, education for healthcare professionals and empowerment for pregnant women is integral to reducing the number of unnecessary stillbirths. And the support given to families following the loss of a baby is vital. Sands have done so much for us over the last two years including supporting me through my pregnancy with Aneurin's little sister and for that, I am very thankful.
Aneurin will always be missing from our family and we will never stop grieving for him or wishing he was here with us. We are still learning how to parent him in a way that works for us and our family. Fundraising in his memory is something that allows us to speak his name, share his story and do something positive with his short but meaningful life.
