Story
Hello friends, so here's what I'm doing to raise money for my chosen charity, PLAN UK:
My "Class of '82" school year are having a 30 year reunion party in May 2012 in my home town of Bridlington, East Yorkshire, so I have decided to cycle to it from Portugal, where I live now. You know, just a little 2,500km jaunt to see some old school friends.
First, about the charity. PLAN UK help the communities of children in the world's poorest countries to improve their lives through education and building and health projects, provided by money and donations from sponsors such as myself. I've been sponsoring children in these poor countries for over 10 years now and the difference my donations and letters make to their lives and their communities is amazing. All donations go to help the communities of the sponsored child, not the child personally.
To learn more please read this Forgotten Children. This is the PLAN UK project that I will be raising money for through my epic journey.
My ride will be through Portugal, Spain and France before taking a short ferry across the "Channel" and then continuing to Bridlington. I'll be either using campsites, simply putting up my tent in the wild or seeking out kind hearted people who will let me camp on their land. My aim is to cycle a minimum of 100km (60 miles) per day continuously (no days off, just sleeping at night) and complete the trip in 25 days maximum.
Your donations will have a double effect. First, the money I raise will help change the lives of the world's poorest children and second, my motivation to complete my trip, and all the training associated with it, will be sky high.
Thanks for reading, I hope you can help.
Andy
