Story

Updated - 05/7/15

The amazing team of 8 people have now returned to the UK and completed the amazing challenge with Jon and Bernie cycling through 4 countries and a total of 1700 miles. There was a few challenges along the way but without complaint the team overcome these and ensured the journey was a success.

The great news is building work has already began in Kenya of the new infant school!

  • June 2015 - 2 Million Revolutions From Home

On 19 June, Jon Alexander and Bernie Hollywood will begin a 1700 mile cycle on a tandem from Morocco to Yorkshire that they hope to complete in 14 days.  They are aiming to raise £50,000 in order to build a much needed infant school in the region of Magadi in Kenya.  The school will provide free education to over 200 children per year.

As part of the 6 man support crew I will be ensuring this event runs smoothly and be ready to step in as reserve cyclist should I be needed.

Every penny raised will go direct to school buying bricks and materials needed on the ground, no donations will be spent on admin.

  • Feb 2015

I have recently led a group of volunteers out the Magadi Kenya to support the Memusi School. This made a great impact on the school and community with various activities ranging from

- Giving talks on basic business profit and loss calcualtions

- Teaching the children arts, crafts and sewing so they can repair their uniforms and create items

  • Oct 2014

I have now completed the Great Scottish Half Marathon 2014 and set a PB of 1hour 59mins and 16secs - With a bit of hard work you can achieve anything.

I am going to continue taking part in sporting events such as the Cheshire 10k at Arley Hall on 2nd November 2014 amongst other races.

Thank you to all who have sponsored you really are making a huge difference

  • Jan 2014

I have now returned from the trip to Magadi in Kenya. I can honestly say without a seconds thought that every single penny that is donated goes directly to the school and benefits within weeks the children for the better.

I have never met such a positive, loving, caring and so appreciative and thanking community. These are the best people in the world simple as that.

The commitment and effort the teachers have to helping the children receive a excellent education is matched by the children's 100% attention in every class soaking up all information presented and a huge willingness to learn. If only one school was a mirror of this in the UK the difference to the children's future would be huge.

Thanks again to all the donations

I will be completing the Great Scottish Half Marathon 2014 in October raising funds for Memusi

I will also be completing the 24hour round the world cycle at the Ricoh arena with 600 cyclists aiming to raise a mere £35k so that a full secondary school can be built.

  • In January 2014 I have the amazing opportunity to work in the Memusi School in Kenya. This will see a team of us working together to teach the children within the classroom and to aid in building work on a separate classroom.

I feel this will be a very moving and life changing event and I really want to make a real difference whilst embarking on this journey so please donate as generously as possible as the whole trip is self funded this way all donations will go directly to the charity and the resources needed on the ground. This includes all the key things to make a real difference including malaria nets, building materials, school equipment, farming, sustainability and a feeding programme

Each year, the Memusi Foundation has committed to build one new classroom at the school and increase the number of childen it can accomodate.

Please visit the Memusi Foundations website to discover more about the amazing work they do and the real differences made.

"The Memusi Foundation exists to provide hope. Through education we work to help children to escape poverty in their lifetime.

Working in Sub-Saharan Africa, we support communities who are trying to make a difference for themselves. We believe firmly in a partnership approach to ensure that the communities that we work with have equal passion for their school. This ensures longevity and care of the projects where we invest. All of our schools have been established locally, by people who have believed in making a difference. With each of these schools, the Foundation works to help promote and guide the excellent work that has been started.

As well as working to develop school infrastructure, we also look to provide sustainability. This model drives towards the longevity of each of our projects and the independence of the communities who are so passionate about change."
