Story
Every year, Joy and I hold a fundraising event for Breast Cancer Charities but the pandemic has made it impossible to host our usual Crafternoon or Quiz Night so we've had to think again.
Joy will be running a 24hour Craftathon but as I'm less crafty, I will be holding a Furlough-Face Beard Trim.
I was furloughed in April and since then I have developed a Furlough-Face by letting my beard grow wild and bushy. The cover picture above shows it as it was a couple of months ago. Joy and others hate it. Now that furlough has finished for me and job seeking awaits, the attempt to emulate Gandalf and ZZ-Top must be cancelled. The wildness must go and I must again unleash my ugly face upon the world.
Most of you that know us will be aware that Joy has suffered from Breast Cancer for the past 2 decades and for the last decade, incurable secondary breast cancer. Joy has survived far better and longer than anyone expected and much of that is due to the care and treatment she has received. The breakthroughs and advances in treatments have been an important factor and much of this relies on charity funded research. There is still much work to do as in the UK alone, about 11,500 people die from this Breast Cancer each year.
We have lost too many friends from this terrible disease and know how this impacted them and their friends and families - and this is the motivation behind our fundraising.
To be honest, my sponsored Beard Trim is a rather poor event so please concentrate less on the sacrifice of my facial hair and more on the good you can do by supporting this important and worthwhile cause.
My Beard-Trim will take place on Saturday 28th November and coincide with Joy's Craftathon. Please feel free to sponsor her too:
