Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I will be running the 2011 London Marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support - they provide support to help improve lives of all those living with cancer. I gained small insight into the incredible work Macmillian do when my Grandfather was ill with cancer. They make a massive difference to thousands of peoples lives... Click on read more for my blog!
5th April – The final countdown... (Click here for the final video blog)
The day of reckoning is rapidly approaching – it is feeling very real now with less than two weeks to go. I have not quite started to count down the number of sleeps left but am not far off! After covering nearly 500 miles in training, 446.96 miles to be specific, I feel like I have put in the hard work and am now in my tapering phase, which is more fun than it sounds – for any non-runners see the video blog for a more detailed explanation. A massive thanks to everyone who has donated to date but there is still time left for all you out there who have not donated yet… I had a final charity push over the weekend with collections at a local garden centre and church, where everyone was very generous. As this is the final blog entry I felt a special thanks was required for the wife ;-) She has put up with a lot over the last couple of months and I wanted to say a big thank you for her wonderful support. I hope you enjoyed these updates and thanks again for all your support, and donations!
14th March 2011 – Miles and money are rolling in… (Click here for corresponding video blog)
With just under 5 weeks to go the London Marathon is rapidly approaching – I received my race pack through the post today… seems very real now! Since my last update I have run 234.58km and have really started to build up to some long runs – these have included a half marathon at Silverstone racing circuit. Check out my video update for more details and specifically to hear about my race against Katie Price, aka Jordan… In addition to the running the fundraising has also stepped up a level – firstly thank you very much to everyone who has donated on my justgiving page! I have also organised a tin collection at the local shopping centre and a bag pack in M&S – these went really well with almost £3,000 raised across the two events. If you want to see what approximately £2,000 looks like spread out on a dining room table then check out the new pictures. I will update this blog one final time 1-2 weeks before the marathon – until then, enjoy yourselves.
27th January 2011 - Racking up the miles... (Click here for corresponding video blog)
Boom! Since my second post I have run 241.01km - well and truly building up the miles now. Starting to build up to some longer runs on Sundays and still enjoying it, well kind of... I have started doing some interval training, where you alternative between running really fast and slow within the same run - it really hurts! With help from friends we held a Christmas market to raise some money and I also went for a run on Boxing Day when I was back in Swansea visiting my parents - saw a simply stunning sunrise. Check it out for yourself on the pictures page - along with me looking good after that run with my Macmillan hat on! I am currently busy organising tin collection and bag packing events so if you want to get involved feel free to put your hand up. Finally a massive thank you to all those of you who have already donated! Until next time... keep running!
8th December 2010 - Battling the elements... and apples! (Click here for corresponding video blog)
Since my first post i have run 123.24km - my training has well and truly started! During the last month i have become a fruit and veg seller - have been around my neighbours selling apples as we had a big crop this year from our trees (see photos) and everyone has been really generous, so a big thank you to my friendly neighbours! I have also graced the local Morrisons with my presence most evenings last week doing some tin collections - i seem to have got a fair bit of money for that... I think I have got a knack for it, or maybe i just look good in a sash - see the photos to judge for yourself! For the last week I have been running in the gym as it has been really icy on my running routes - although I am not sure how much more I can take of it, as it is really boring compared to running outside. That's all for 2010 - will add my next post in the new year... Can't believe it is nearly 2011 already...
1st November 2010 - The start of the journey... (Click here for corresponding video blog)
I will be posting up photos and videos of my training and fundraising activities so please feel free to pop back often and check out how i am doing - possible highlights may include apples going for free in exchange for a donation, me looking good in a macmillian sash, a great rock-n-roll gig, a raffle with fantastic prizes and a charity chest wax! Lots to look forward to, kind of...
