Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I intended to complete this ride for the first time last year. There was a setback in April 2014 when I suffered a stroke. As a doctor said, there was no reason why it happened - I was unlucky. My heart and other organs were in good shape. My speech and vision problems were swiftly restored. Thanks to my beautiful children together with amazing relatives and friends, life is good. I am all the more determined to cycle for Diabetes UK. People need to know that you have to take control of your well-being - even with unexpected hiccups. The rest here is the story I told of my inspiration to help Diabetes UK. If you kindly donated to the cause last year, the money will be included in the amount for the 2015 event. Thank you again
Six years ago, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and weighed18st. It was a wake-up call as the disease led to my father's death at 54 some 20 years earlier. I rediscovered my love of cycling and, within a short time, commuted 100 miles a week to and from work. My weight fell off and my blood sugar levels gradually returned to normal. After several checks, my doctor took me off of a daily cocktail of drugs for diabetes and other obesity-related medication to low doses of just two tablets. Even some weight returned up until recently, the blood sugar levels have remained in non-diabetes range.
Please help me support Diabetes UK in their brilliant work helping Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics.
