Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It is now 10 years since my son Martin sadly passed away, aged 27, overwhelmed as he was with debilitating mental illness. He is sorely missed by many. To mark this anniversary Martin's sister Heather, and me, are walking the 84 miles of the Hadrian's Wall path in 6 days commencing 12th June - a half marathon each day.
At the age of 6 Martin learned about the Romans at school and announced that for his birthday he wanted to be a Roman soldier on Hadrian's Wall. We were able to make this happen and so Hadrian's Wall has a special place in our hearts. Some of his ashes have also been scattered at the Sycamore Gap point along the wall.
In taking on this challenge we hope to raise much needed funds for Mental Health Research UK (MHRUK) - www.mentalhealthresearchuk.org.uk. Mental illness accounts for one third of all illness, but funding for research into mental illness is minimal in comparison to all health related research. We appreciate that these are straitened times, but if possible please give your support to the cause of advancing the knowledge and understanding of mental health and illness, and reducing the pain and suffering of all those affected. MHRUK is run by unpaid trustees and 95% of all donations go directly into research projects.
