Story
Rob fought a courageous battle with brain cancer but sadly on Friday 12 November 2021 he lost this fight. Rob was first diagnosed with a brain tumour back in 2012 and had surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy which controlled the tumour. Unfortunately at a routine scan during lockdown in June 2020 this showed there were changes starting but the surgeon was confident in dealing with this. However, after another scan in October it showed the tumour had spread elsewhere. Rob had a biopsy in November followed by months of different types of chemotherapy. Unfortunately no treatments worked and the tumour had significantly spread affecting Rob’s daily life.
Rob was an inspiration to so many with his fight and determination. He just got on with his life without complaint. He was committed to staying as fit and healthy as possible after his diagnosis and took up running. Rob didn’t just run a 5/10k, he went on to run 6 marathons and 10 half marathons. He ran some incredible times with his best marathon time of 3:29:18 and his best half marathon time of 1:33:27.
Rob was the most amazing husband, son, brother, uncle and without a doubt, an amazing father. He was so selfless and caring about other people. Rob absolutely adored his daughter Eloise and enjoyed every moment he had with her. Life is so cruel and it makes no sense to take such a young life who has everything to live for.
In Rob’s memory we would ask that rather than sending flowers if anyone would like to make a donation to do this instead. Rob’s chosen charity is The Jane Tomlinson Appeal and specifically the OWLS (Overcoming Worry, Loss and Sadness) Bereavement Service which offers practical and emotional bereavement support to primary-aged children (4-11).
