In Memory of Edward Moynihan

 

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page - I'm running the 2010 London Marathon on April 25th in memory of an amazing little boy called Edward.  This will be my first ever marathon, and your support will go a long way to inspiring me over the finish line (which will be no small achievement, as anyone who knows me will testify!)

 

I am running in support of Climb – (Children Living with Inherited Metabolic Diseases) who were a valuable source of information for Edward’s parents during his short life.

 

Climb is committed to fighting metabolic diseases through research, awareness and support. They are the UK's only dedicated organisation to provide information and support on all metabolic diseases to children, adults, families, carers and professionals

 

 

For anyone who did not know Edward:  He was born with a very rare metabolic condition which meant that he could not produce enough energy for his needs. After a precarious first month of life, he astounded everyone by bouncing back and living a very nearly normal life, of much enjoyment, at home, out and about in Surrey, West Sussex and Edinburgh, and on holiday in Ireland and County Durham, for almost a year.  In the early summer of 2009, however, the illness began to affect the respiratory centre of his brain and he gradually became unable to breathe without support.  When it was realised that nothing more could be done to help him, he was transferred from PICU (the paediatric intensive care unit) at the Evelina to The Chase Hospice for Children in Guildford , where he died peacefully on 10th July.
