Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I want to thank everyone who took the time to donate on my first page and first run this year. I reached my £500 target and then some! I am overwhelmed by your generosity. That page remains open until I run on May 30th. This page is for when I run the Bupa Great South Run on October 30th 2011, so please dig deep and donate now. I have a £1000 pound target so feel free to spread the word :)
I'd like to tell you all about the most incredible women I have ever met. How I am lucky to call her my best friend and why I am here telling you about her story.
From the day she was born she was diagnosed with an extremely rare condition of the lung's (Pulmonary Haemangioma) of which she is believed to be the only person in the world with it. She grew up on the Isle of Wight in the knowledge that she will be lucky to see her 18th birthday and was in and out of Great Ormond Street Hospital for procedure after procedure.
I met her, at 13, in our first year of high school. She was the girl at the back of the class that laughed and pointed her finger at me. At first i was sure i would "stay clear of that one". But little did I know we would become closer and closer through the years to the point now where I would consider her a family member!
We partied on through the years, and boy did Channy know how to party. She is the life and soul of a party and many stood back in ore of her energy and dance moves. She taught me to be strong, she taught me to stand up for what I believe in and to be less of a "pushover" ;)
And then late last year Channy, now 28, was admitted to The Royal Brompton Hospital in London. The lung specialists were preparing for life threatening surgery. But before this could go ahead they wanted to look further into the matter and conducted some tests. It was in January of this year that the tests came back with cancer. Further tests and scans have shown that the cancer originated in the lungs and has aggressively spread across her body. The doctors' prognosis is 3-6 months.
As you can imagine, this came as a huge shock. I was by her bed, with her family, most days whilst she remained in Royal Brompton. We talked, we laughed, we reminisced, we cried. Before Christmas I, with the help of all of her friends online, managed to raise just under £3000 for her. This money is now going towards making her life as comfortable and fun as possible.
She received the best care from the Macmillan nurse (Michael Evans) and as you can imagine they quickly forged a close bond. As a result, I am here today to ask you for a few moments of your time to donate all you can in support of the great work that the Macmillan team give to cancer patients.
*Chantelle lost her battle with cancer on 14th April 2011. She will be forever missed and always in our thoughts xxx
