Tom and I will be by running in the 2011 Great South Run at the end of October in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, to raise both awareness and money for this great charity. In particular, we're running to support the appeal to build a specialist young person cancer patient unit at Southampton General hospital. It will be the first of its kind in the South of England, building on the two bedrooms and specialist care it funds at Southampton today
At the end of last year Tom (my son) was diagnosed with cancer. We know first hand how its work has helped Tom and want to spread the word.
Some of you, who may have had your own lives, or those close to you touched with cancer, will know the reality of general cancer wards and how important the right environment and emotional support can be in coming to terms and dealing with the illness, both for those affected and their families.
Also, young people contract some of the most aggressive cancers; survival rates for teenagers fall far behind survival rates for other age groups and require specialist skills.
The work that the charity does in these two areas makes a real difference
So, we would really appreciate it if you could spare a thought, a little cash and maybe a minute to tell others about this charity
