Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was unfortunately diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer 2 months ago (October). I have had surgery to remove the main tumor and am now going through chemotherapy to slow the spread of the disease (lymph nodes and bone). It is extremely rare to have bowel cancer at my age (31), and it has nothing to do with lifestyle or family history in my case...it typically effects people 60+. Although I am not considered 'curable', I am hoping that the treatment can slow things down long enough to give me a good quality of life and return to normal activities (work, socialising etc).
People keep asking me if there is anything 'they can do'...the one thing I would ask is if you can donate a small contribution to this fantastic charity. The amount of young people being diagnosed with bowel cancer has risen over the last few years, and with extra funding the charity can invest further in research into this area. I know first hand how awful the early symptoms can be, and how easily it can be confused with other, less harmful diseases. By increasing awareness of both the symptoms and the disease, there is a great chance that other young people can have faster diagnosis and hopefully more positive outcomes!
Thank you, Andy :)
