Walk 1 - Walked 17th Jan at 8:00am took 4hrs 30min
Route - Snowdon Ranger - Here we go first of my 52! Neil Elias (Ducks) and my-self started the walk at 07:55am.The early stages of this walk was wet as we negotiated the boggy ground below Cwm Clogwyn. As we reached the final section were it meets with the Llanberis Path we had realised that we had been protected by the snow covered slopes above. Now that they were gone, nowhere to shelter, winter was well and truly upon us. It was an airy position but on the other hand enjoyable. We reached the summit at 11:00am, crampons had to be used and care was taken. After settling down for a bite to eat, we descended and then reached back at the car at 12:30pm
Walk 2 - Walked 23rd Jan at 5:50am took 4hrs 15min
Route - Llanberis Path - Keith Williams(Nebo),David Hughes(Gel), Neil Elias(Ducks) & my-self set off early at 05:50am as I had an interview on radio wales live at 06:35, as we reached rallt coch on came the crampons. Having reached the top in just over 2hrs, there were 3 tents pitched at the top near the cafe, we spoke to one of the guy's, they pitched up at 4:00am that morning and were attempting the Glyder's today (nice chap from Dorset). We settled down for a break and reached back at the car for 10:10am.
Walk 3 - Walked 31st Jan at 08:15am took 5hrs
Route - South Ridge - Gel, Nebo & my-self hit the South Ridge, from Rhyd Ddu we walked towards the direction of Yr Aran, turning left at Bwlch Cwm Llan we ascended the ridge and approached the junction with the Rhyd Ddu path, the conditions deteriated and our crampons had to come into use once again. We kicked in on the steep slope - it was like walking on velcro.Reaching the summit was a challenge in it-self.After having a cuppa and home made bara brith we decsended down the Rhydd Du path, the walking conditions were dangerous as the fresh snow fell on frozen ice. Eventualy we reached the car and drove the short distance to the Cwellyn Arms were a warm welcome with an open logged fire was just what the doctor ordered coffee in hand.
Walk 4 - Walked 6th Feb at 08:15 took 8hrs
Route - Gyrn Glas Ridge - WOW! what a day - fantastic! A couple of guy's from Cardiff Alex & Dale joined Nebo & my-self on what turned out to be a momentus day to say the least! Right from the off, this walk was a good slog up towards Cwm Glas & onto the Gyrn Glas Ridge. The ice & snow made it more difficult the higher we went, climbing through gullies, traversing (not for the faint hearted) and the use of ice axes became more important. We eventualy got to the top of Glogwyn & carried on the left shoulder upto Crib Y Ddisgyl. We then took some photo's as the conditions were near perfect. We went onto Snowdon and had a photo shoot with the scarf fron BBC Radio Wales with "Backing The Boy's" at Rugby, we then settled for a bite to eat. We then set off down the Pyg Track and onto the Miners track. A big thankyou to all 3 for making it a fun and enjoyable day.
Walk 5 - Walked 14th Feb at 09:15 took 3hr 30min
Route - Snowdon Ranger - I started this walk at the car park of the Snowdon Ranger Hostel, it was a crisp morning as I overlooked Llyn Cwellyn and could not stop my-self from taking some photo's it was breath taking. My wife Lynne started the walk and reached the top of the zig zags as planed, and then headed back to the car. It took 1hr 40min to summit the top which was good going considering the conditions towards the top. I bumped into Mike Binfield from the Caernarfon Boxing Club on my way near the standing stone at the top of the Pyg Track he was with Aron another cofi. As I summited the top the weather changed dramaticaly the wind started to howl the snow began to fall, so I took a few photo's and settled down for a heart warming cup of tea and a sandwich (look at the colour of his hair I hear you ask, it's all for charity folks! I have had to bleach it before putting the pink in on Wednesday 17th along with the other staff from Travis Perkins Caernarfon). (a BIG thankyou to Gillian and the girls from GG's for taking the time for doing this). Back to the walk! I headed down and my darling wife came to meet me at the bottom of Cwm Clogwyn when she and my-self ran the rest of the way back to the car.
Walk 6 - Walked 20th Feb at 07:00 took 4hr 45min
Route - Llanberis Path - From the community centre in Llanberis I headed up the Llanberis Path.Passing the halfway cafe Alwena was nowhere to be seen, I made my way to clogwyn it was crampon terrain. I gently gained height and as I did I found myself in a whiteout as if someone had pushed a button and wala! Strange feeling sought of claustrophobical. Immediately things began to get that little bit harder. Visibility had dropped to what seemed a couple of meters. Anxiety crept in and I just stood still. Listening to the quietness, then like ivy, the cold finds it way in. Your hands and feet feel it first. Then up your arms down your thighs deposits of snow melting into my clothing. I suddenly thought I need to get the hell out of here and knowing that I was close to Clogwyn Coch didn't help. I was the first up on the slope so there were no tracks to follow as fresh snow had fallen over night. I decided to take a rough bearing with my compass and map and headed in the direction of the summit (so I thought!) then suddenly I emerged from the mist/whiteout just near the standing stone of the PYG track remarkable what a relief. I then proceeded to the top and settled down to taking photo's and a bite to eat (did you notice the pink hair). As the minutes ticked away the skies became clearer and I made it back to the car in one piece. Fascinating Journey!
Walk 7 - Walked 27th Feb at 12:55 took 3hr 15min
Route - Snowdon Ranger - Well this was a fast one, 1 hour 40 minutes up and just over an hour down. I was accompanied by Neil (Ducks), and it was the first time this year and on my challenge that we did'nt have to put on crampons as the snow was soft to walk on. Having got to the top we settled down for a snack outside the Cafe and spoke to a group from Chelmsford - nice guys whom for some, was the first time up Snowdon and up a mountain (a proper mountain). I am sure they'll be hurting after this walk. Anyway back to the walk the views were.......................... yes you guessed white white white. We headed back to the car in just over an hour back for full time scores and watch Ireland beat England!
I am at present 2 walks behind as of 11/03/10
Walk 8 - Walked 13th March at 13:05 took 3hr 35min
Route - South Ridge - I was accompanied by Mr Mike Binfield from Caernarfon. He'd only been up a handful of times so I took him up a path which he hadn't been up the South Ridge. I t was a tough slog but thoroughly enjoyed it. The Snow has started to receed however it was still very wintry on top with crampons needed again. We reached the summit in just under 2 hours quite a good time as I had a mountain novice in Mike with me but a determined lad. After a wee break on top we descended down the Snowdon Ranger path down to the main road at the hostel and walked back to the car park at Rhydd Du. Well done Mike!
Walk 9 - Walked 20th March at 13:30 took 2hr 38min
Route - Pyg Track - Straight after work after dropping off the small one Osian, I decided to do the Pyg track. The conditions were ok until I reached the bottom of the Zig Zags were a group of people had stopped for what looked like to be a break , there were children amongst them. Anyway i trekked up the zig zags which were covered in snow which made it just that little bit more dangerous so caution was taken, I then reached the top - it took an hour and twenty and boy was it gusty. After settling for a cuppa I made my way down only to bump into the group I saw earlier this time they were struggling half way up the zig zags, I was astounded in what clothing they had on, the children were cold and looked frightened they could not of been older than 13 maybe 14 years of age. I stopped to speak to one of the adults and advised them to turn back, I was ever so glad they eventuly took my advise. I made it back to the car in the same time it took me to go up.
Walk 10 - Walked 25th March at 09:15 took 4hr 30min
Route - Snowdon Ranger - Weh hey...... reached double figures folks! With the help of a few work colleagues. A good day at the office as they say!!! We started off at 9:15am at the Ranger car park, Andy Ray (Head of Transport) Wynne Phillips (Regional Director North and Mid Wales) Huw Walters (Regional Director South West)) Matt Humphries (Regional Sales Manager) Mike Williams (Key Accounts) Dafydd Jones (Branch Manager Denbigh) Ben Lauder (Branch Manager Porthmadog) Tom Lauder (Royal Navy). Enjoyed the company mind you the weather could of been better for the boy's as Wynne, Andy and Huw travelled from down South. Still a little snow on top, it took 2hr 30 min up and we settled for a snack. On the way down a little incident worth to mention - Wynne put his best foot forward and... ooops! he just sank into the snow waist deep, rather funny at the time. Cheers boys a good day at the office! Dafydd star man!
Walk 11 - Walked 4th April at 09:20 took 4hr 50 min
Route - Snowdon Ranger - This was one to remember all for one good reason The Wife (Lynne) put in an attendance bless her! We were also in the company of local politician, football pundit etc.etc. Mr Gerald Parry. We started the walk once again from the Ranger car park, I picked this route knowing that Lynne was with us and that this was the safest route up as the snow was still with us. We started off at around 9:20am and as soon as we got to around 600m the visibility was down to just a couple of meter's and snow under foot. At this stage the snow was soft until we got to the standing stone of the PYG track, this is were it started to get a bit icy and Lynne was a little apprehensive to carry on as people were sliding down on their bottoms. After a little persuation we got to the top in under 3 hours it was freezing and the wind was howling. After a few photo's on top we got talking to a group of people who came up the PYG track, they explained that the conditions were dangerous and asked for a safer route down. We offered them to follow us down the Snowdon Ranger in which they did so. Having talked to them luckily enough they were staying at Rhydd Du, A ramblers walking group from Dublin, realy friendly and we mostly spoke to Sean (nice chap) guy's if you read this article all the best in the future! we stayed with them all the way to the Ranger car park, and as we got there the next bus was only 10 minutes away as they needed to get their cars from Pen Y Pass. A big thankyou to Gerald and Lynne for keeping me company!
Walk 12 - Waked 9th April at 16:10 took 1hr 55 min
Route - Miner's Track - After a hard day's work, I finished at 3:30pm drove up to Llanberis Pass and picked The Miner's Track. I felt a little envious of the people whom were clambering down after a hike up on such a clear day. Anyway head down and I made it up in 1 hour 10 Minutes, as I was on my way up, a rescue was taking place on top of Crib Coch. Touched the top and jogged most of the way down the PYG Track in 45 min, good training for the Snowdon Race in which I 've been accepted.
Walk 13 - Walked 10th at 09:30 took 4 hr
Route - Snowdon Ranger - Not planned to do this one up until 8:15am this morning, a good friend of Mine Steven Owen from Co. Gallway Ireland was down for the weekend and asked if I could take him up. We set off on the Snowdon Ranger as this was his first time up Snowdon, hopefully he realy enjoyed the walk, there must of been well over a hundred on top on a nice springy warm day. I'm sure with the time we did it in Steve will be stiff for a day or two. Thanks Steve good company!
Walk 14 - Walked 18th at 09:30 took 2hr 50 min
Route - Watkin Path - First time up the Watkin this year. Hard slog for those who haven't given it a go, this route has a height gain of 1,025 metres (3,363 ft). Starting at Nant Gwynant following Afon Cwm Llan River, and passes the Gladstone Rock, then onto the hard scree before hitting the summit. Took me 1hr 29 min to the top, the sweat was pounding off. I then decided to descend down the South Ridge and onto Yr Aran a fantastic view point of a mountain. Stopped for a few photo's before running back to the car.
Walk 15 - Walked 23rd at 09:30 took 3hr 45 min
Route - Llanberis Path - The wife Lynne was with me on this one, her second this year. Parked the car in Llanberis and straggled up the Llanberis Path. On the way up we came across a couple from Sheffield Moya and Paul, they were celebrating Paul's 50th Birthday by going up Snowdon. We made it to the top in just over 2 hours, and then settled for a bite to eat to take in the fantastic views. On the way down we stopped at the Half way cafe and had a heart warming cup of bovril and a curant square cake from Alwenna bless her. We then made ourselves down to see Steff at Pen Ceunant Tea rooms were we had a warm welcome and ice cream. Got back to in good time - thankyou honey for the company.
Walk 16 - Walked 25th at 08:30 took 1hr 49 min
Route - PYG Track - This was the cathch up walk that i've been behind on, I am now bang on 16 weeks 16 walks. Took the PYG track as I was on my own and I wanted to try and do a quick one towards training for the Snowdon Race. The weather was cold, windy and wet from around 600 mtrs. I took just a couple of photo's on top and headed straight down to a hot shower.

Route - Pyg Track - Graham & Carol Bellman, Ian Church, Billy Cox, James How, Lynne Smitheringale, Wendy Davies, Sophie Hargreaves, Lynne (the wife) & Aziz started the descend at 3:30pm. After a short while we bumped into 2 men one of them being Nick Hancock off "They think it's all over" they had just attempted Crib Coch and come down the Pyg Track. On we went and reached the summit in 2hr 30 min, a rather good time as all had just made the journey from Northampton 3-4 hour drive. The condition's were cold and wet on the summit however we visited the cafe for a hot drink and warm up. Ian set the pace down the Miner's Track with Billy (the joker) and myself behind with a petrified Sophie. We made it back to the car in 2 hours. Well done to all - Good effort!
Walk 18 - Walked 1st May at 08:45 took 4 hrs
Route - Snowdon Ranger - After a few beer's oh! and a few Rev James's Guest Beer at the Black Boy we went on for a curry to the Indian were Ian Church decided that we attemp another trek up Snowdon the next morning. I decided the Snowdon Ranger as a different route. We started the Descend at 08:45am Ian, Billy, James, Lynne, Wendy and myself. The zig zags took a bit out of us at the beginning but onwards and upwards were the words from Billy the Joker. Worth to mention the guy's and girls were down to walk Snowdon for 2 reason's, the first to accompany myself on one of my charity walk's. The second reason is that they are all in training as they are attempting the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in June 25 mile walk in aid of the both Charities that Travis Perkins are supporting, "The Children's Hospice's Uk" and "The Breast Cancer Campaign". Back to the walk, we made it to the Summit in 2hrs 15 min brilliant time considering we made it just 12 hours before. After reaching the summit we settled for a bite to eat at the cafe. We made it down in 1hr 45min another good time. A big thankyou to all for your company and support and good luck in your own challenge on the Yorkshire 3 peaks.

Route - Snowdon Ranger - Colleague’s from Travis Perkins made the trip from the Midlands, Malcolm Hawley, Rob Searl, Kirsty Searl, Alison Roberts. Alex Fice, Alan Bourne, and Tim Fellows. They travelled up after working Saturday Morning, and we set off at 3:30pm up the Snowdon Ranger path. All are in training for the Yorkshire 3 x Peaks which they are taking part in June. (Where better than Snowdon)! Malcolm whom contacted me for the walk, has himself lost over 3 stone since Xmas in preparation for the 3 peak challenge (fantastic). We made it up in just 2 hours 30 min which was a gallant effort by all. Unfortunately the café was closed so we settled for a chocy bar and a few photo’s. We descended and reached the car in just over 2 hours. Well Done all.
Walk 20 - Walked 9th May at 9:15am took 5hrs 30 min
Route - The Watkin Path - After a comfortable stay at the Farm House in Rhydd Du, and a very good meal at the Cwellyn Arms on the Saturday Night. The guy’s had already planed to go for the Watkin Path and is possibly the most arduous route up Snowdon and involves the most height gain. A beautiful walk with it’s old mine workings and dramatic scenery with the final very steep upper slopes onto the summit. We set off at around 9:15am with another 2 colleagues joining us Gerard Dickinson and Ray Sandle. Onwards and upwards was the cry, passing the Gladstone Rock a plaque commemorating Mr Gladstone’s visit in the late 1890’s when he addressed the local people standing on top of this rock (that enough of the history lesson). We reached the high shoulder before the steep climb. Malcolm took the lead with a brave effort from Alison and my-self behind, (the rest of team went ahead of us) we reached the summit in a good time of 3 hours 15 min. A brilliant effort by all - thank you all for your company.
Walk 21 - Walked 21st May at 09:30am took 3hrs 10 min
Route - Llanberis Path - I took a day off to do the patio and ended up going up Snowdon with the missus. Well it was the wife’s idea so I took her up the long Monotonous climb up the Llanberis Path. Reaching half way the café was closed. (Alwena must of taken the day off). We walked on and a friend caught up with us Steve Eddy, he was training for The Snowdon Race (ideal I thought as he walked to Clogwyn with us I took a few tips for the Race) we then carried on to the summit took a photo or two and into the Café. Here Lynne and I took a coffee. We spoke to Keith Ellis a local Policeman from Caernarfon he had just walked the Rhydd Du Route. Back to the walk, we took 2hrs 10 min to the top a rather good time for Lynne, and only 1 hour down to Steph’s Café were Steph treated us to a lemonade and ice cream bless him.
Walk 22 - Walked 27th May at 09:30 am took 4hrs 40 min
Route - Llanberis Path - Colleagues from Travis included Wynne, Matt, Pete Evans, Andy Ray, Rob Harman, Rob Conde, and Tyrone from Catnic. We started at the Railway car park up the Llanberis Path, we then took a left after Clogwyn to knock off Crib Y Ddisgyl and onto the summit of Snowdon were it was Snowing. We then had a coffee at the cafe before walking down making a pit stop at halfway to visit Alwena. We then got down to Steph's cafe were we had a cuppa. Cheers lads for a good challeging walk.
Walk 23 - Walked 12th June at 1:00pm took 1hr 53 min
Route - Snowdon Ranger - Back and all tanned up, this was a walk to try and shed the pounds from the all inclusive family holiday in Tenerife that i'd just been on. Straight after work on Saturday afternoon took 1 hour and 15 minutes up and 38 minutes down. I had to queue to the top so many people, it was like a sale day at Travis Perkins! On my way down at the car park bumped into Steven Ellis (chubbs) and Wayne, they'd been on a bike ride - Steven seemed to look a little tired, (not to fast next time Wayne)!
Walk 24 - Walked 15th June at 5:45pm took 1hr 51 min
Route - Snowdon Ranger - Again the Snowdon Ranger and straight after work, this was after may I say a FANTASTIC weekend thrown by the Caernarfon Gogs at the Golden Oldies Caernarfon Rugby Festival. Only a few on the Mountain and a handful on top, they too were attempting it for charity. Getting close to halfway on my challenge.
Walk 25 - Walked 18th June at 5:00pm took 2hr 46 min
Route - PYG Track - Lynne my wife accompanied me as she was on a day's off on the calmest of evening's. We took the Pyg Track and made it a good time up 1hr 36min. After a quick pit stop we made our way down the Miner's track, this taking 1hr 20min Lynne's best time up and down - well done girl!
Walk 26 - Walked 20th June at 09:30am took 4hr 30 min
Route - Llanberis Path - HALF WAY Foulks! Week 24 - 2 walks ahead. I was accompanied by Lynne (wife) Osian (son) his mate William Evans and Lynne's friend Sian and her little dog Garth. This was Osian's first attemp this year along with his friend William. Sian hadn't done Snowdon since the mid 90's so a brilliant effort by all. Took the Lanberis route and was there some people on the mountain! on top of your ordinary walkers there were 38 teams competing in the Yacht's society 3 peak's challenge. The weather was brilliant and a big thankyou to Steph for the refreshments at his cafe. Thanks to all on my halfway walk!
Walk 27 - Walked 22nd June at 09:00am took 7hrs
Route - The Big Dipper (Moil Eilio group & Snowdon Ranger) Wow that was a long one - started at the Height's in Llanberis and walked up Fron Goch onto Moil Eilio (that was a climb in itself) then up and down onto the Snowdon Ranger. Some guy's were going to take Telegraph Valley back to the Car but plodded on fair play. Great effort by Matt, Hughie, Pete, Ben and Wynne all in training for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.
Walk 28 - Walked 04th July at 10:15am took 4hrs FAILED
Route - Llanberis Path - Was accompanied by Caernarfon Boxing Club member's 15 in total and what a day! The weather was attrocious heavy rain and winds. As a lot of organising had gone into this walk and the guy's were more than able to do the walk, I had to break the bad news that we could only probably reach half way as the forecast was looking pretty bleak. Off we went, as we gained height the wind was howling picking up strength and it seemed that someone had just pulled the plug on the bath as the rain belted down on us. We reached halfway only to find the cafe closed. We stopped for a breather and the guy's were that eager to carry on that I decided to go ahead to Clogwyn and see how strong the winds would be. As we got to Clogwyn the gust's at times were blowing us off our feet and this is were I came to a quick and easy decision to turn back. The guy's fully understood but still dissapointed as it was the first time on Snowdon for many. We descended down to Stepp's cafe for a heart warming soup and bread - well done to all that took part real good effort. Especially the veteran's inc. Ian Boxer, Mark Pursglove, John Burns, Kev Penguin, Colin Tate, Dylan Moduron Menai and Ed from New York - well done!
Walk 28 - Walked 11th July at 07:15am took 2hrs 9 min
Route - Snowdon Ranger - I planned to do this as training towards the "snowdon race" took just over an hour up and then descended down the Rhydd Du path. On my way down I bumped into Gary Beck, he too is a keen walker always walking the mountains. I ran back to the car in an hour.
Walk 29 - Walked 11th July at 15:30pm took 2hr 59 min
Route - PYG Track - Yes two in one day, after getting back from my morning trek I went to do a little gardening and the wife bless her wanted to go up Snowdon. Ideal I thought as it would make up for the one I failed on last Sunday. Went up the PYG Track got to the summit in 1hr 38min. We then went for a cuppa to the cafe before descending to the car.
Walk 30 - Walked 17th July a 04:15am took 2hr 37 min
Route - PYG Track - This was an early one but for a good reason, a couple of my friend's were camping on top of Snowdon as they were going to attempt the 15 peaks. The plan was to go and fetch their Rucksack, tents etc. as they were setting off at 04:00am from the top of Snowdon. I was amazed on reaching the car park as it was 3/4 full of vehicle's - unbelievable! Got to the top and descended with 2 guy's from Hale in Manchester attempting the 3 peaks in under 24 hours in which they done so with time to spare. I had to rush back as I was meeting up with Dale whom I also made plans to go up at 08:00am.
Walk 31 - Walked 17th July at 08:15am took 2hr 22 min
Route - Rhyd Ddu Path - 2 in one day again it's beginning to become habbit! Dale from Cardiff joined me on this walk and what a quick one it was. We ascended the Rhydd Du path in 1 hour 30 min - considering Dale doesn't do much Mountain this was an excellent time up and down, the weather wasn't great either a bit windy and raining all the way up. Thoroughly enjoyed it Dale well done great effort!
Walk 32 - Walked 20th July at 9:00am took 3hr 30 min
Route Snowdon Ranger - Yes the Ranger again, this is a route I do like though! on this occassion it was the walker's that picked the route Wynne, Matt, Pete, Rob and his son Chris. Started at 9am got to half way and the gaffer turned back. He was cold wet and just didn't have it in him but there's always next time! On we went and took 2hrs 15 min up a brave effort by Chris only 11 years old and his first trek up Snowdon. We took 1hr 15 min down. Well done to all.
Walk 33 - Walked/Ran 24th July at 2pm took 1hr 47 min
Route - Llanberis Path - THE SNOWDON RACE and what a race it was.... This will stay in my memories for a long time, the build up, the race itself, the people and we can't forget the Snowdonia weather. It didn't stop the crowd's in coming though... a damp day to say the least. I took 1 hour 10 minutes to the top and what a hard slog it was, raining and as soon as we hit the bridge at Clogwyn the winds increased. This was my first attempt at the race and hopefully not my last. I seemed to be passing alot on the way up obviously the walks that I have done paying off. As I headed back down, the legs felt like jelly passing the halfway cafe, wet under foot and all. As i hit Hebron I twisted my anlkle this is when I had to take more time and concentration to make it to the end. As I got to the Royal Vic the crowd cheering gave me a lift although I was hurting and cramp setting in, if this race was any longer I dont think i could of carried on. On the whole a realy enjoyable day and already looking forward to next year's race although I can't put much weight on my foot as I am writing this clip!
Walk 34 - Sunday 8th August at 4:10am Welsh 3000s took 15hr 45min car to car
Route - 15 Peaks (15 mountain's above 3000 ft) - A ten year amition became reality..... What a day, started off at Pen y Pass at 4:10am with Neil Elias(Ducks), John Clowes, Keith Williams(Nebo) & David Hughes (Gel). Got on to Crib Coch (1) - if truth be known It was a little hairy, the knee's started to wobble! As soon as you do Crib Coch you have the Pinacle's to tackle before ascending Crib Y Ddisgyl (2) and then onto a gentle walk up to Snowdon bagged 3 in just over 2 hours. Descended down the Llanberis path and veered right, down to Nant Peris were John's Wife and helper were there, bacon butty's in hand. After a change of clothing we straddled up the monotinous Elidir Fawr (4) and what a climb that was, talk about digging deep... After a short break on top we then went over to Y Garn(5) which wasn't to bad and down to Llyn Y Cwn or (lake of the Dog's as John called it) before the hard slog up Glyder Fawr (6) we then went around castell y gwynt and on to Glyder Fach (7).We then descended down a steep slope to Bwlch Tryfan by this time we were running out of fluids fast. We then had to make the scamble up Tryfan (8), to say it was busy was an understatement. It was like queing up at K2 night Club on a Saturday Night that busy! We then descended down Tryfan were yet again John's wife Mel and helper's were at hand with grub what a sight. Ham, Beef, Cheese & Egg sandwiches (brilliant) Then the last serious climb came, up Pen yr Ole Wen (9), the heart was realy pumping at this stage sweat pouring off as if somebody was stood over me with a watering can! When we got to the top we knew that the hardest climb was over with - what a relief!!!! We then went on to Carnedd Dafydd (10), Llewelyn (11), Yr Elen (12), Foel Grach (13), Garnedd Uchaf (14) and finally Foes Fras (15). What a memorable, fantastic and tiring day group hug and all. As we got to the car park at Aber after 35 miles of a hard slog Lynne & Gwen were waiting with bottle's of Stella, Champagne and strawberries. A big thankyou to the support crew on this challenge and to the guy's that took part, a realy memorable day that will stay in my memories for ever. The only downside of the day was that I lost my camera hence no photo's (gutted)
Walk 35 - Saturday 14th August at 9.00am took 4hr 30min
Route - Llanberis Path - Four girls made the trip down from Liverpool, Suzanne,Pia,Catherine & Helen. From the car park opposite the Railway station we took the route through the woods opposite the Royal Vic up past Steph's cafe and up the Llanberis Route. First time for the girls and a good effort it was whom are raising money for Charity themeselves for a local Hospital in their area. We took just over 2.5 hrs up and the girls felt it as usual we stopped at the cafe for a break and then took 2 hrs down which I must say was a great effort - thanks for your company girls and good luck on your charity event!
Walk 36 - Sunday 22nd August at 08:00 took 3hr 30min
Route - Rhyd Ddu - Lynne my wife accompanied me on this one up the Rhyd Ddu Path and quite a peaceful morning it was, got to the top in 2 hrs a bite to eat and descended down the South Ridge which to me is one of my favourites. Well done Lynne walk number 8 let's see you hit double figures!
At present I have walked 36 times into week 34
Walk 37 - Sunday 29th August at 9.00am 3hr 45min
Route - Snowdon Ranger - Five made the trip from down South - Paul, Laurence, Jane, Alison & Lindsay. Lynne the (wife) also came along. All except Paul & Lynne are in training for the Yorkshire 3 Peak's which is taking place in 2 weeks. It was the first time up for most and the weather was atrocious as we ascended. The Rain belting down the wind howling especialy when approaching Clogwyn Du'r Arddu. As we approached the top it was white knuckle time so easy to be blown off! As we got to the top there were literaly hundred's on top with nothing to see as the cloud was low. We then settled for a Latte and bite to eat at the Cafe and all of a sudden the skies cleared which was pleasing for the walker's that joined me. Took 2 hrs up and 1hr 45min down a brave effort considering the weather well done to all and good luck on your challenge.
Walk 38 - Monday 30th August at 07:45 took 5hr 30min
Route - PYG Track - Two in two day's and what a comparison in the weather a beautiful day the best we've had for a while. Claire from the Breast Cancer Campaign joined me with her partner Adam, they both made the long trip from down south (London). Started at the car park at Pen Y Pass, Clare & Adam got the last space at 07:30am so it was obviously going to be a busy day on the Mountain. Off we went admiring the views as we ascended. We got to Bwlch Moch the junction were you take the option either up Crib Coch or The PYG track yes we took the latter for obvious reason's. We carried on up the zig zags taking in the panoramic views of Cwm Dyli and onto Bwlch Glas, from here we took around 10 minutes to the summit took a few photo's and into the cafe for a Latte. As we Descended down the Miner's track bumped into Mickey Thomas ex Man Utd star. Down we went and approaching Llyn Llydaw, Lynne (wife) her mum Kath and the son Osian met with us we all walked back to the car. A big thank you to Clare & Adam for there company and well done to both - good effort!
Walk 39 - Saturday 4th Sept. at 0745 took 4hrs 30min
Route - Pyg Track - Seven travelled up from London on this walk - Niall,Claire,Tom,Meera,James,Tanya & Christina. Their choice was the PYG track seem's to be flavour of the month! We started this quite early, as if on cue again we took the last car park space so a busy day on the mountain was ahead of us. The weather was fine and of we went into the early morning sunshine. We summited the top in 2hrs 30min and now becoming a traditional thing we entered the cafe for a bite to eat. We walked down the Miner's track as I did in my last walk but the views for some reason are always breathtaking never do I get bored of it! Took around 2hrs to the car park - well done and thankyou for your company.
Walk 40 - Sunday 5th September at 10:00am took 9hrs
Route - PYG Track - Well Well this has got to be up there as one of my best day's on the Highest Peak in Wales and all down to the Girls that accompanied me - oh! and my son Osian. Eryl Crymp from the Daily Post also made a guest appearance. If I ever wanted inspiration to carry on with my challenge then this was it. We parked at Llanberis and got the Sherpa bus to Pen Y Pass. From here the PYG Track was the chosen route once again. This was a first for many. Here goes! - slowly we staggered up the steps that lead us to Bwlch Y Moch here we had our first of many of pit stop's! Taking photo's of Llyn Llydaw below, the pyramidal outline of Snowdon straight ahead and also the dizzy heights of Crib Coch to our right. On we went it begun to rain and grew increasingly cold. A thin t-shirt and light trousers were poor protection so out came the warmer clothing/waterproofs. We steadily gained ground and I worried at times whether there would be a difference in fitness between the girl's, and that some would have to slow their natural pace that frustration and tensions would arise - how far I was from this assumption. We got to the zig zags and as we approached the last 100 meters a few of the girls got nervous and jittery but to their credit managed to reach Bwlch Glas - what a sigh of relief. From here we had no more than 15 minutes to the summit. We got to the top in just over 3hrs fantastic effort. After a few photos on top Terri belted out with 'Calon Lan' in which we all joined in brilliant! We had a coffee and a bite to eat in the cafe and started our descend, we visited Alwena at the halfway cafe and also paid a visit to Steff at his cafe at the bottom before heading back to the cars. May I take this opportunity to thank all for such a memorable day FANTASTIC!
Walk 41 - Saturday 18th September at 11:15am took 7hrs
Route - Snowdon Ranger Path - We carted off at 11:15am 19 made the journey from Classic Trade Frames in Manchester led by the gaffer Tony with his wife Debi and son Adam. The weather was fine as we set off but as soon as we started the climb at Cwm Clogwyn the cloud fell and down came the rain. All made it to the summit however the weather/mountain claimed first casualty - Dawn decided to catch the train down! Alot made the journey back to the car faster than others, the last being David and his wife Linda soaking wet tired but still in good spirit and there words on arriving at the car park was "Now that was an epic journey". May I take this opportunity to thank all that took part - really good effort...
Walk 42 - Sunday 26th September at 09:30am took 4hrs
Route - Snowdon Ranger - Long time coming - my colleagues from work and a few customers joined me on this walk. Dewi (tew),Kevin (bum fluff),Darren(action man),Eifion (james bond), and the customers - Tecs (spiderman),John (captain jack sparrow),Mel (Elizabeth Swann) & Andy (George Mallory) Pinnock. Oh! and the Mrs Lynne (Angelena Jolie). After waiting for Twiglet Jason Baylis for 15 minutes we decided to start off without him. A crisp autumn morning as we made our way up the first set of zig zags. As we approached Cwm Clogwyn some of the guy's were in Awe of the challenge ahead of us! After a Bovril provided by Cpt. Jack we slowly made our way up what I call the second set of zig zags,I walked with Andy the birthday boy on this section his knowledge of the area was second to none learnt alot! then reaching the final section crossing the rail tracks in the distance we could not see the summit for people, realy busy the weather obviously playing a big part. Over the years that I have walked up Snowdon never have I seen it bussier than I have this year, it is quite obvious that outdoor activities are catching on. However - but for this challenge I would more than likely be walking quiter mountain's as one of the biggest reason I walk the Mountains is for the Solitude. But I sometimes wonder how much of the inspiration people find in the mountains, both now and in the past. A walk in the hills is often a challenging and, at times, an arduous experience, and the rewards may come as much from the exercise as from the location. We are so lucky to be living in such a beautiful place like North Wales with Snowdonia on our door step...... Here's me going on - back to the walk, we had a team photo and a break in the cafe and headed back down. Took around 4hrs 30min a brilliant day on the mountain a big thankyou to all!
Walk 43 - Saturday 2nd October at 08:30am took 4hrs
Route - Snowdon Ranger - Richard Adams and his son Michael joined me on this walk, they had travelled from Hertfordshire on the Friday evening. This route was recommended to Richard so off we went from the car park. The pace was quick as we ascended the zig zags. As we gained height just after halfway the wind's increased and the thought of turning back had crossed my mind more than once. The weather didn't seem to bother Michael (only 15 years of age) so on we went and as we reached the junction of the Pyg Track there was some protection from the summit of Snowdon ahead. We reached the top in 1hr 50min a very good time as the wind was against us most of the way up. I tookk them into the cafe for a cafe and after the first cup was poured the generators failed so the cafe had to close. As we descended Richard was taking pleasure in telling other walker's on their way up that the cafe had closed! We got back to the car at around 12:15pm a very good effort by both and thanks for a challenging day.
Walk 44 Sunday 10th October at 08:50am took 4hr 40min
Route - Rhyd Ddu - Gerald Parry joined me on this walk. Crossing the Welsh Highland rail track the summit was under cloud but it was an unusually warm day for this time of year. This route is probably the easiest up Snowdon except in winter conditions it can become quite technical with the proper equipment needed. As you gain height you come to the path that climbs up the Llechog ridge through a bleak and windswept terrain. This side of the Snowdon Massif is very exposed to the prevailing winds, particularly in winter. As we approached Bwlch Main there were two ladies looking a little bit frightened by the winds and they asked how far and how dangerous it was to the summit. We explained that they were no more than 30-45 minutes to the top and that we would escort them to the summit. They looked really pleased by this! as we walked we discovered that Luisa was from Italy and Loma from New Zealand. We got to the windy summit and walked back down to the car park with them. They did really well and thankyou for both your company and Gerald of coarse!
Walk 45 - Thursday 14th October at 12:30pm took 4hrs
Route - Llanberis Path - This was unplaned, got a phone call from Pete Roscoe whom had a day off and asked if I wanted to join him to go up Snowdon as it was also his Birthday. How could I refuse! We were also joined by Pete's nephew Daniel. We set off at 12:30pm up the Llanberis Path and this was the first time for Pete to go up Snowdon, we got to Halfway in 50 min which was a good time and got to the summit in just under 2 hours. A few photo's a coffee in the cafe and down we went - thanks for the company guy's!
Walk 46 - Monday 25th October at 10:00am took 5hrs
Route - PYG Track - I was joined by Kellogs and his brother-in-law Mark from London. What a glorious day it was. The car park at Pen Y Pass was full so we parked at Pen Y Gwryd hotel. It was quite obvious it was going to be a busy day on Snowdon. We took the rocky route of the PYG track which traverses the southern slopes of Crib Coch and passes below the mighty cliffs of Crib Y Ddysgl. The panoramic views are second to none. As you traverse up some zig zags and reach a leaning marker stone at Bwlch Glas - wow.... I never get bored of the mountain scenery. We got to the summit in 2hrs 20min a good time and settled down for a snack. We descended down the Miner's track passing 3 lakes and the derelict copper mine buildings and made it back to the car in 5hrs. A very good day and thanks for your company guy's.
Walk 47 - Sunday 10th November at 12:30pm took 3hrs 10min
Route - Rhyd Ddu - The first Snowfall of this winter and how i've missed it! Parked at the Railway station and looked forward to the walk after a break of 2 weeks. As I set off I could see the cloud fall to cover the summit, had I left it too late in the day... as the forecast for late afternoon was a turn for the worst! I passed the roofless ruin of the small house that was, long ago, a Half-way House. An old lady and her son brought up refreshments on ponies for the benefit of earlier ramblers. As I gained height and reached the face of Llechog a sharp rise was ahead before reaching Bwlch Main which according to my altimeter on my watch is 3000ft. The snow on the paths had melted so it was fine under foot. I reached the summit in 1hr 45min and settled for a cuppa out of my flask. I then descended down the South Ridge and got back to the car in just over an hour.
Walk 48 Walked Saturday 14 November at 07:30am took 4hrs
Route - South Ridge - Accompanying me on this walk was Keith Nebo, Gwyn Arfon and Garym Jones. Getting closer to the finishing line now with only 4 more to go. Parked at the railway car park and set off at 07:30am. We set off towards the South Ridge passing through the old quarries at the foot of the Aran and were we took our first pit stop just behind the wall over looking the Watkin Path. We then started the ascend of the South Ridge a steep ascend until you reach Bwlch Main and then a good 20 minutes to the summit were we settled for a snack within 2 hours a good time! We descended down the Rhyd Ddu Path and reached the car at around 11:30am. Thanks guy's for your company and a good walk.
Walk 49 Walked Tuesday 23rd November at 06:00am took 3hrs
Route Snowdon Ranger - Early start knowing that a day's work was ahead of me! It started off quite clear on a crisp winter morning. As I approached the boggy ground below Cwm Clogwyn I decided to take a much more exciting route, a detour up the crest of the ridge from were you get breathtaking views down the great cliffs of Clogwyn Du'r Arddu, I've been told that this is the finest crag in Wales and known as 'Cloggy' to the brave rock climbers. As I ascended up the ridge, a wall of mist was approaching me from the Llanberis side, quite a spectacular view that I have never come across before a bit eary but still spectacular. I carried on and made it to the summit in 1hr 50min were it started to snow, I had know time to hang around and rushed down for a quick shower before going into work.
Walk 50 Walked Sunday 28th November at 10:00am took 3hrs
Route Snowdon Ranger - Neil Elias (Ducks) joined me on this walk, not planed! but as it had been snowing for the last day or so we thought that we'd put the effort in. Realy picturesque especialy looking over the Nantlle Hills rising from a green, wooded valley, with the shapely peak of Moel Hebog in the distance. On we went, a short break on the summit no crampons needed and down we went in 3hrs
Walk 51 Walked Thursday 23rd December at 8:00am took 6hrs
Route Snowdon Ranger - David Hughes (Gel) and Gerald Parry joined me on this trek, and what a trek it was. Right from the off it was difficult, the snow was deep so we had to dig in. We got to Cwm Clogwyn and thought if we should turn back, however Gel egged us on. The winds started to strengthen just above Clogwyn Du'r Arddu but there was no turning back at this point. We went on and settled for a cuppa on the summit realy cold! We then descended in some style and time, took just over 6 hours up and down. A big thankyou to both Gerald & Gel.
Walk 52 Thrursday 30th December at 7:30am took 7 hours
Route Snowdon Ranger - My last walk and one that will stay in my memories for ever for all different reasons. Joining me were John Clowes and his adourable wife Mel, Dilwyn Evans (Mal), Kelvin Morris (picachu), Keith Nebo, Neil Ducks, David Gel, Gerald Parry (Next Mayor) and a special appearance by Tony Bohana (legend). Started off at 7:40am at the Ranger car park always a slog up the zig zags then it levels out for a good mile over boggy ground to cwm clogwyn, here we took a 5 minute break before the climb to the summit. Took 2hrs 30 min jubilation - champagne - emotional what a feeling with alot of my friends amongst me fantastic. We then descended knowing that there was still over 3/4 of the way to go. As we reached the tarmac part of the path towards Llanberis Mark Jat and Hughie joined us for the final stint to Caernarfon. Before this we had a warm wlcome from Rhian at the Padarn Lake Hotel in Llanberis were sandwiches were provided along with drinks, a big thankyou to Rhian and the staff. Off we went through Llanberis onto Cwm y Glo and through Llanrug, cars passing beeping there horns donating to our buckets fair play! these small tokens that kept us going. As we got to Caernarfon the Fire station had parked one of the appliances outside the station blue lights and two tones, thanks to Kellogs and the watch. As we approched Caernaron my son joined with his friends and we marched past the bus station as we turned the corner WOW! people had gathered on the square along with the Mayor Huw. We all felt like celebrities - so a big thankyou to those who clapped and cheered us in, familes friends and everyone else. We then retired to the Eagles were Clive and his team also gave us a warm welcome.
Can I point out also that we can not forget the people whom have lost loved ones in all types of illnesses and it's people like yourselves that when contributing to different charities and causes that make a big difference towards the cures and equipment that the Medical side needs.
