Story
On the first of December 2017 I was lucky enough to experience the most beautiful labour and birth at home, followed by a swift delivery in a birth pool in our living room.
Unfortunately it quickly became clear that our baby boy, Jobey, was suffering from breathing problems. Consequently a swift ambulance journey to hospital ensued and after a rapid assessment by doctors he was whisked off to Jessop Wing’s NeoNatal intensive care unit (NICU).
We later found out our baby boy had swallowed a large quantity of meconium during his delivery into this world and had meconium aspiration syndrome.
He was very unwell and his condition was critical at times, relying 100% on a ventilator to take his breaths for him, whilst being heavily sedated. This continued for five days before he was able to step down his oxygen support. Jobey was on oxygen for the first two weeks of his life and the NICU team worked diligently round the clock to care for our boy, as well as so many other poorly babies. We cannot thank them enough, they showed compassion for us when we needed it most and their care for the babies was evident at all times, even at the end of their 12 hour night shift.
We would like to thank and support them for all of their wonderful work. Please join us in donating to their worthy cause in celebration of one year of our boy who, thanks to Sheffield NICU, is now healthy and loving life.
Thanks
Andrea, Chris, Miro and Jobey x
