Story

On the 20th October AMY, JAMIE AND ROB will be participating in the Amsterdam marathon. All in aid of the MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY!

Training started way back in July, and has consisted of many gruelling runs, jogs, sprints and swims all to make sure they are in tip top shape when they hit the Netherlands!

All funds raised from their participation in the Marathon will go directly to the North Herts Branch of the MS Society and will be used to support those affected by MS in the local area.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK. It is a condition of the central nervous system. In MS, the coating around nerve fibres (called myelin) is damaged, causing a range of symptoms. It's normally diagnosed in people between the ages of 20 and 40, and affects almost three times as many women as men.

Once diagnosed, MS stays with you for life, but treatments and specialists can help to manage the symptoms. We don't know the cause and we haven't yet found a cure, but research is progressing fast. For more information please visit http://www.mssociety.org.ukor contact 0208 438 0700.

What does your local Branch do?

THE NORTH HERTS BRANCH OF THE MS SOCIETY

All over the country there are Branches of the MS Society where teams of dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that the right support is available to those who need it.

We cannot thank Amy and Jamie enough as without fundraising ventures like this one we simply would not be able to offer the support and services that we do. As all of our Branch committee members are unpaid and we do not have any property to sustain every single penny that is raised will go directly to helping to change the lives of those affected by MS.

What exactly do we do?

We employ a Neuro Physiotherapist to deliver weekly classes. This is crucial and helps people to maintain as much function as possible for as long as possible.

We can provide financial assistance to help people purchase adaptations and equipment which becomes essential to enable them to live as independently as possible.

We provide a wealth of up-to-date information about MS.

A quarterly newsletter, keeping our members informed of Branch news and events.

Two social ‘MS Friends’ lunches per month.

A friendly ear! There is always someone available to speak to who can listen and offer advice to those who need it.

We arrange several different events throughout the year, getting people with MS together.

Annual outings.
Quizzes.
Carol Evenings.
Christmas Dinners.

And more……

THANK YOU SO MUCH FROM THE COMMITTEE TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE SPONSORING AMY & JAMIE!!
