HEY! so... I'm going to Uganda in Africa for 3 months! from March 8th to June 8th with Tearfund Transform (www.tearfund.org) in conjunction with Uganda COBAP (http://cobap-uganda.org/) who work with HIV/AIDS victims in Uganda.

This trip is going to be a real challenge for me as I have never even been away from home for more than 2 weeks! I am excited and nervous but eagar to help! so please help me to do something amazing, please donate!

I am going on an Orientation with Tearfund in a couple of weeks, where I will learn a bit more about the kind of things I will be doing, but for now here is a bit of information about what I will be doing whilst I am out there!

COBAP (Community Based AIDS Programme) is a local response to HIV in one of the slum areas in Kampala WestDistrict. COBAP started about ten years ago as a small community project. It has four components:

HIV/Aids care project: Caring for and counselling people living with HIV and Aids in the slum communities. 

Youth Intervention project: This part of the project works with the youth in the community to help them live life more positively.

Childcare project: working with the children in the community.

Community and church capacity building: this project helps the community and church help themselves in dealing with their problems.

COBAP seeks to build the capacity of five slum communities in Kampala to enable them to address the effects of HIV and AIDS through the training of community volunteers, lifeskills education programmes and care and support to people living with HIV and orphans.
