My baby boy Archie was born in September and after a tough few days at home i realised something was not right and took him into the hospital.  After a couple of days and lots of tests he was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition which effects the lining of the gut, failing to develop nerve cells from the bowel called 'Hirschprung Disease'.  This means that the bowel does not function properly and without surgery the condition can be life-threatening.

Only about 1 in 7000 babies are born with 'Hirscprung Disease' reasons and causes are still not fully understood.

 

Hospital staff were excellent however we had to come home and carryout rectal washouts for 3 months, until surgery (doing this has saved Archie from requiring a storma).  Surgery meant taking biopsy's to check for good cells and then remove the damaged segment of his rectum and large intestine.

 

Well as i write this we are 4 days post surgery, to my greatest of pleasure surgery seems to have gone well.  We still have hurdles we will have to deal with when they arrise but will take things day by day.

 

My reasons for raising money via JustGiving for the charity 'Core' is for the work they put into the reaseach and awareness in 'Hirschrpung Disease'  In recent years, Core has funded two projects that sought to find new treatments for the disease. This research can be found at:
