Story
On the 24th August 2011 my cousin decided to end his own life
(he was 33) A bipolar sufferer he felt that he could no longer cope in this world any longer.
His death devastated me and my family. I felt helpless at the time and I still do and even talking about this really upsets us.
I decided from September 10th 'Suicide Prevention Day' I would go a year without alcohol and try and raise as much money as I can to help people with mental health problems.
Mental Health has such a stigma and I don't understand why. A simple "Are you ok?" could really help someone and find out, what is going on with them.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 and, overall, men account for three-quarters of all suicides and this is an increasing concern.
I spoke to MIND and they told me the money I raise will go to:-
*65,000 calls for the free advice line (by a real person)
*10.7m hits for people looking for advice on their website
*460.000 support booklets given out to suffers with advice and guidance on
*150 shops around the UK (my mum volunteers in one of these)
*375,000 people using mind services in England & Wales
*500 employers taking their specialist mental health training
If the money I raised can stop one person making a decision not to end their own life then I have achieved my objective. I want to help as many as I can.
To my family - I am sorry if this is painful for you reading this but I wanted to do something in his memory.
"Its nice to be nice"
So James this is for you, good night xxx
