As most of you know, on October 28th 2006 I was involved in an accident in which I recieved 3rd degree burns to the right hand side of my body. After skin grafts and months of rehabilitaion, I was introduced to the Manchester Children's burns camp, and later on the Young Adult Burns Camp. These residential camps take place once a year, and take a group of young people who have had similar experiences to myself to the lake district for 5 days where we do high adreneline activities such as rock climbing and water sports. These camps come at no charge to the young people, and rely completely on charitable donations.

Being at camp and meeting other people like myself has really changed my life for the better. We all become much stronger from being around one another and we really are one big family! The camps have done so much for me over the last seven years, even giving me the opportunity to go to an American camp, and I think it's about time I gave something back to them.

The people that come to camp as our leaders have been with us every step of the way through our recoveries, as many of them are the hospital staff who work on the burns units. There are also a team of firemen from Manchester who give up their time to come on the camps with us, driving our minibuses and offering us a helping hand on all of the activities. Without the doctors, nurses, psychologists and fire fighters, camps would not be possible, and so I would really like to show them how thankful I am for all that they have done for me. They have really helped to shape me into the person I am!
