Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 7th April I will be standing on the start line for what is described by the Discovery channel as the toughest footrace on earth - The Marathon Des Sables.
The MdS is a grueling 6-day, 156-mile race through one of the most formidable landscapes in one of the world’s most inhospitable climates – the Sahara Desert. The race rules require me to carry everything I need to survive these 6 days, aside from water to drink and a tent to sleep in.
With 10kg on my back, I will be orientating myself up to 54 miles of desert sand a day, running through temperatures of 50 degrees centigrade or higher, so why am I doing this…
As many of you know my beautiful younger sister has been battling with Breast cancer for the last 3 years and it is for her that I am raising money for Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK is not only one of the leading cancer charities in the world, it is one of the few that dedicates a significant proportion of it’s funding to cancer prevention. If you would like to find out more about the work that Cancer Research UK does please look at their website cancerresearchuk.org.
I would like to make everyone aware that I have paid for everything involved with taking part, so every penny donated is going straight to Cancer Research UK.
I know in these challenging economic times, money is a precious commodity, so anything you can spare is exceptionally gratefully received.
Just in case anyone wants to check that I have survived each day and not got lost or buried alive in a sandstorm, you can follow my progress on mds.livetracker.com from the start of the race on 07 April.
Thank you so much in advance. Knowing that I am raising money for such a good cause, will hopefully spur me on during those dark moments where every cell in my body is screaming STOP!
