Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. With my family, we've set this page up to provide an opportunity for friends and family to donate to the Springhill Hospice in Rochdale, where our dad spent the last few days of his wonderful life.
John Brian Reade was born on July 4 1938 in Wolverhampton, and after military service and university at Cambridge, as well as becoming an accomplished pianist, he moved to Manchester, and Rochdale in particular, in the late 1960s. He lived the remainder of his life in Rochdale - at first in Wardle, and then after the late 1970s, in Middleton.
He worked as a lecturer in mathematics at the University of Manchester, inspiring many generations of students, many of whom still meet to this day as a result of dad's efforts to encourage students during "Week 6 Extravaganza's".
He was also a remarkable jazz/ragtime pianist, always playing, be it on his own, or in one of the many jazz bands he formed part of over his life. So many of our memories are of dad playing the piano.
In his later years, he developed dementia, and particularly towards the end, received wonderful care from the OASIS Unit at Rochdale Infirmary, and in particular, the Springhill Hospice in Rochdale. We'd be delighted if those visiting here felt willing to donate to the Hospice, which runs almost entirely on donations.
