Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As a New Year's Resolution, I decided not to give anything up this year but instead to do something I had never done before!
I rather stupidly decided on competing in a triathlon, and set my sights on the Woodhall Spa Triathlon. I had plenty of time to train, but all of a sudden 6 weeks ago, I thought I had better start! And now it's only 5 days away so I thought why not do it for charity and ask for sponsorship, just to add to the pressure.
The Woodhall Spa triathlon is a "Sprint Distance" so I will be doing a 400m swim in an outdoor pool (heated), 24km bike ride, 5km run.
I won't be very fast, but do hope to finish, so please consider donating to Cancer Research if you feel even slightly impressed by what I am attempting. Otherwise, any positive vibes sent out to me on Sunday will be appreciated.
Thanks to my mechanic and chief supporter Jez without whom I couldn't do this.
7th May:
I did my last training before the event yesterday - cycled to Woodhall Spa to collect Alexa in the trailer, dropped her off at home then went for a 3 mile run, just to see how it feels to run after cycling! Yep, Sunday is going to hurt; and that's just the chafing from the cycling shorts. I just hope it isn't too windy; and that I am finished in time for Alexa to go to her friend's party.
9th May:
Well, I did it! The weather was great - there was a bit of a head wind on the uphill stretch but that meant a tail-wind on the downhill section, weeeeeee!
It was a fantastic experience that I would recommend to anyone. There was a real cross-section of abilities, which meant that I overtook a few people and was passed by a few more. I managed a reasonable time of 1hr 41mins, although not sure about the individual legs as I forgot to start my stopwatch in all the excitement.
It feels so good to have done it, that now I contemplating doing another one!
