Fundraising for The Difference
We are running the Adidas Manchester Marathon on Sunday 16th April in memory of our mum Christine. It will be 5 years in April since she lost her battle with cancer. 😕
Mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2015. She fought with strength and courage, never complaining no matter how awful treatment made her feel.
Watching her deteriorate in front of you was the hardest thing ever especially knowing there was nothing you could do about it. Mum spent her final weeks being cared for in the Margaret Kerr Unit at the Borders General hospital. The team at the MKU were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and they definitely made mums final weeks more comfortable.
We are so lucky to have this facility in the borders, we got to spend precious time with mum and be with her night and day and say our goodbyes in a beautiful calm environment.
So we felt it was fitting that if we were going to take on the challenge of running a marathon we would try to raise money for the Margaret Kerr Unit.
We do enjoy running anyway (sometimes 🥴) and have participated in various 10k and half marathons but neither of us have ever attempted a full marathon! Having done a half marathon the thought of then turning round and running back again is not appealing in the slightest!!!! So this will be a tough physical (and mental!) challenge for us. But knowing we have friends and family supporting us and helping us fundraise for the Margaret Kerr unit in memory of our mum will hopefully help get us over the finishing line!!! So any donations you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you ❤️
Note: “The Difference” is the registered charity for fundraising for NHS Borders - they have funds for different wards and departments and you specify what department you want to fundraise for - we have specified we are fundraising for the MKU.
