Story
Hello – thanks for taking the time to visit my Great North Run page.
Sept 19th - Update I managed to complete the 13.1 miles - the knee (and body) held up and I ran all the way albeit "slow and steady". It was a great experience and a wonderful day. Today I am in pain but it was worth it - thanks to all of you who have sponsored me. I would do it again BUT only if I can train for it and run a respectable time. All the best, Allen
Sept 11th - Update I have had a serious knee injury which has prevented me running until this week. I can now walk/jog and will be on the start line - just hoping the adrenaline, excitement and co-runners will help me to the finish.
As part of the Newcastle University team, I am raising funds for:
Jubilee Debt Campaign (50%) – fighting against poverty and oppression for the millions of destitute people in the poorest countries. JDC is a coalition calling for 100% cancellation of unfair and unpayable poor countries’ debts. These countries are still paying $100 million EACH DAY on their debts to the richest – this is a travesty.
Stop AIDS Campaign(10%) – millions still await treatment and the fight against HIV/AIDS is ongoing. In an age of cheap generic drugs surely that cannot be right.
Save the Children (40%) – my personal choice of charity. They work in over 120 countries to save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential. No child should die from a disease that is preventable by immunisation – yet millions do because they receive NO vaccines at all. This is not acceptable.
These three organisations all have the same basic aim – saving lives. So please give as generously as you can – a small donation goes a long way. Every 30 seconds an African child dies from malaria – just £3 buys a mosquito net so they can sleep safe.
This will be my first (and probably last) half-marathon and I need all the encouragement I can get! Your sponsorship will provide a great incentive.
In hope, Allen
