On 17/04/11 I shall be running ( hopefully most of the way ) in the Virgin London Marathon.

There are 2 reasons for my entry -

1) For those of you who know me, you'll agree that I don't exactly have the build or athletic physique of your typical marathon runner, far from it, I'd rather go for a pint instead of going for a run ! However, for this task, I've had to sacrifice many of my "joys" in life to lose weight and get fit. (nightmare)

It's been a gruelling training programme for the last 9 months, especially during the snowy conditions before christmas. I've also been training mostly on my own, so, come the big day, it will be nice to run with a "few" extra people.  

I shall be 51 years old at the end of April and for many years it's been one of my ambitions to run the London Marathon. I didn't want to do it at 49 or 51, so achieving this at 50 will be an incredible milestone for me.

2) To raise money for The National Deaf Childrens Society - 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents with little or no experience of deafness or knowledge of how to communicate with a deaf person. 4 babies are born deaf every day in the UK. Given the right support there is no reason why a deaf child cannot develope a language at a slower rate than a hearing child of similar ability. 

These are just a few of the reason why I am supporting this amazing charity and with your kind donations, greater support can be given to not only the deaf children but also their families.

So, I hope I've given you a little insight into my reasons for my attempt at this mammoth task ahead and my journey thus far, some say I'm crazy, but you know, it's good to be crazy once in a while !!
